I'm currently using 8'& 8'6" Bass Pro P&K trolling rods for pulling cranks with mono and would like to play around with lead core this next year. Would these rods work well for this or does a good lead core rod have different requirements than one used for long lining mono? Thanks for the help..RJ in Montana

The rods you have will work for lead core, but ideally they should be softer and more forgiving. Lead core is a minimal stretch line, and requires the same type rod as a superbraid. And you should back your drags off as well. This is assuming you're using a short leader for contour trolling. If your leader is 30' or more, it's not such an issue. Good luck.

Your rods will work. They're not the rods I use but they are the rods that 2 of my partners use for leadcore all the time. As previously stated. back off on the drag and slow down the process of bringing in the fish. If you're looking for a cheap alternative buy inexpensive downrigger rods. I use the shimano and they're a blast. Paid $29 each.

I use the Gary Roach telescopic 8'6' rods for trooling lead core line. They are more forgiving than most. Cost about $69.
