How big can you go to on line size during spring night time shallow water trolling? I was wondering if 20# line is to much. Using big stickbaits( f-18 ) alot I would think it would help keep the lure in a higher water column. What I am looking for is to be able to keep the lures as far behind the boat, without letting them get to deep. I would like to keep them in the top 5 ft. if possible. Does anyone know how this could be done? Using planner boards is not an option at this time. Thanks to all who give freely. JJ
John, Set your line distance back as far as you want, then put on a float and let the float back as far as you want. This will keep the lure where you want it and much farther away from the boat. The only problem I see with this set-up is those others guys behind you. Ray

Not a bad idea Ray, but like you said it's the other boats I need to watch all the time. JJ
