Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has done any expirementing with different underwater cameras at 100' and what camera has the clearest picture at any depth?
Thanks,

I have played with OVS, Aqua VU and JR model, Atlantis and am wondering what has the best picture qualities of any others out there.

Only info I can offer: Like Vista Cam's TV format but it is hard to see in the sun. In a fish house is great! Like Aqua View's design. The "tunnel" really shields the screen.
Tried only the Aqua-Vu Jr, w/ the IR camera. The only thing you're going to see at 100' around here in the bottom of the lake. IR on the JR will only illuminate a foot or so at 40'. Not sure down to 100' as the cable is only 50' long. Remeber sunlight can only penetrate so far down into the water, from what I've found around here, below about 30' or so it's dark.

Has anyone else tried the Atlantis? The one that I seen, seemed like it was out of focus or something compared to the other two models like OVS and Aquavu. I am looking for a camera that can get down to at least 75'.

I like the Mammoth OVS-300. I used to have an Aqua-View and this has a much sharper image. Nice and compact too. I actually bring it in the boat with me.

The screen is the same as the AquaVU's( flat panel 4x4) and here they are listed at $379.00. But the ones here don't have a long cable only I believe 50' cable. Do they have an option for OVS for a longer cable lenght?

I have the Atlantis and the pic is sharp as can be. I have not tried it deeper that40'yet probably won't where I fish. I have no complaints at all. Personally I have tried the others and chose this one. nels

It's 4"x4". Same as the Aqua-View Jr. They only have a 50' cable but that's never been an issue for me. I don't care what's deeper than that and you don't have enough light penetration past 50' for it to be worth while to get a longer cable.
I got my OVS-300 at a local place called Thorne Bros for $379. They gave me a pretty good deal, I got a battery and charger, sunlight tube, keel and weight, and a winter kit all for free. I'm sure they would send you one if you gave them a call. 612-572-3782

Hi Nels,
By chance when you had your aquavu did you do a side by side comparison? We did with the atlantis model and the aqua vu in regular and also with the jr and the atlantis seemed blurry or out of focus. We where told that there could have been moisture in the camera, so the folks at atlantis sent my friend a new camera, and that also was not clear. My friend thinks the first time out that the unit was clear though and then went down hill after that.
I am just wondering if he has a lemon or if they are like that. The atlantis folks think it might be his monitor right now. They want him to send his whole unit back to them.
We tried an Aqua VU IR down to '75 feet here this spring and it is amazing how far we can see here. We are able to get out to what seems to be 2 1/2 feet to maybe 3. But it is hard to tell we are just moving the camera forward and at that depth it is kind of hard to justify the distance traveled.
I think one of the biggest tricks to the cameras seems to be able to turn of the IR feature. With the camera off during the day time, there is more distance can be seen at least here in the these lakes. I dont get as much light scattering from substances in the water as if IR is turned on. But at night on the same day really makes a difference, especially in the spring it seems.
I emailed nature vision and found out that they have some new enhancements coming out on the JR model with longer cable lengths this fall and some other goodies I guess. They didn't elaborate to much on what all was coming.

Did some experimenting with a Homemade Camera....I used a 7 inch and tried a 5 inch monitor inside an ice shanty. I found the deeper I went, I was able at obtain a better picture by adjusting the tint and contrast Knobs on the back of the monitor. Darkening the screen seemed to get better depth perception.
