View Full Version : Hovercraft
Does anyone have any knowledge of where to look for a new/used hovercraft, expected price and any other general information? I am tentitively looking to see what the options are and any help/tips would be great,
Thanks.
I was on Lake Erie several years ago, ice out fihing off Marblehead when a fellow was knocked out of a hover craft, when he hit a wake. 2 people on the water and 1 man from shore watched it happen. He never resurfaced. They found his body 5 weeks later.
Watch them, they're dangerous.
It is for ice fishing on smaller bodies of water. Where I live there are running water channels between the best ice fishing and the shore, need something to cross these small open water stretches. It won't be seeing anything like Lake Erie or large areas of open water.

We sell new and used Hovercrafts. Check our website www.tskequipment.com for more information. As indicated in the other messages, these can be dangerous without practice. Remember these float on air! You need to develop handling skills for steering and stopping. Hovercrafts can be very useful once you learn how to handle them. THEY ARE NOT THE KIND OF VEHICLE YOU CAN JUMP ON AND GO, without some experience.

One of our County Marine Rescue units on St Clair well on a rescue, lost "cup" and sunk. Air boats beat you up on ice but they float with engines stalled and are easier to keep right side up. As for loudness advantage hovercrafts slightly.

Have you considered an air boat? The air boat club out here takes them out on the ice as well as the water. When they go ice fishing they bring all sorts of gear--tables, dutch ovens & volcanoes, barbeques--they fish and eat in luxury.

I am a retired firefighter who worked in Mpls, the dept had 2 hovercrafts, they are impressive looking but would never own one, they take lots of practice, I mean Lots and unless you are extremely experienced you will have many breakdowns, it was kind of fun driving one over an inch of ice, but it is an accident waiting to happen, just my opinion.

Airboat went down on Anchorbay a couple of day's ago while trying to get back up on the ice. Driver was wearing a wetsuit. The helicopter that rescued him might be nice.
