I have a couple of these boards but have always been plagued by superline popping off I have tried the black OR 14 releases and wrapping the line but still pop[s off once in a while, are the OR 18 releases better than the OR 14? Any other thoughts on using braided line with boards?
Thanks moreyes

Yes, you need the new snapper releases for superlines. I use mono, have been using the OR-16s (red) with no problems.
I replaced my offshore clips with roach clips from Church Tackle and have no problems at all running super lines.
Snappers releases are to much money. Off shore has a release with a pin in the center of pads that hold the line real good. I think the church clips are the best. Ray
the or-18 are specificly designed to handle the 'specialty' lines.

Yes, they updated the OR-16's, now they have a pin in the center of the pad, so this way, the line doesnt pop off, but it still can slide down the line. I have never used the snapper releases, I would be interested in checking out the Church's releases.

I personally use the Church Roach clips and they handle fire line without any problems. You might want to also try the new snapper release from off shore.

I agree the new or16's are the way to go! Just make sure you are getting the new ones. There is a pin in the middle! You can use them for mono or fireline!

I have used the Snapper releases since they first came out. They work great. We put them on my partners Off Shore boards last year. I recently bought some new boards from a friend that had the Roach releases on them. From all the people I have talked with, they ALL have assured me that the Roach's will hold the Fireline without any problems. I have NO reason not to beleive them. I'm going to use them like they are unless I have line slipping or pull-offs. If there are any problems I would not hesitate to get the Snappers again. They were worth every penny and the peice of mind knowing they'll hold. You will still have your boards sliding down to your lure if you get the releases with the peg in the center and use the Superlines. It just doesn't hold tight like the Snapper or Roach releases. The peg only stops the line from pulling completely off.
Get the snapper releases and forget about having trouble.

The OR-18 "snapper" release will hold your superline quite well. I have switched to OR-18 snapper releases on all of my Off Shore boards now.

Get the snapper releases and you will never go wrong. One handed operation, easy to use, and constructed to last a lomg time. Especially handy when used in cold water/weather situations.

The Church Boards and clips are much better easier on your fingers never have to go back and chase boards. You can purchase all Church Products on line at a discohttp://www.walleyesinc.com/walleyeinc3/onlinestored.htm#Planer boards
Why do you have to buy this and that for the boards? The flags ,releases it should all be part of the package. WELL I guess I do know why $$. Don't get me wrong I use the boards myself and like them very much. I just think Offshore should sell them with the proper releases instead of getting the extra money from us . Just my thoughts not trying to start anything. Bob

The boards work fine right out of the package. We fished them that way for a couple of years. I bet most of you have bug deflectors and running boards on your trucks and special tires and rims as well. It is up to you to custom fit the boards to your fishing application.
If your a Muskie or Salmon fisherman you don't need tattle flags, a striper guy uses the slide back method and the OR-14 as does someone fishing smaller waters. The hard core walleye guy that fishes them anywhere anytime needs the snapper or the red OR-16 and the tattle flag.
On top of that, the dealers do not want to stock several types of board because it confuses the customer. Returns to the store and ultimately to the manufacturer are expensive and end up in the cost of the products for the next year.
It it the guys out there that have taken this board from a stardard piece of equipment to the ultimate in planer boards with changes and adaptations continually appearing. Thank all of you for that and keep thinking of things to do to the Off Shore Side Planer.

Have to agree with bobk. When I got my boards we didn't use braided line and tattel tale flags hadn't been thought of yet. Don't mind updating my old boards but why not sell the new boards with all the right stuff off the shelf?
Off-Shore are still the top of the line.
Chris
It adds up to set up an Offshore board the way I like them. $21 for the board, $15 for the Tattle flag kit. Another $11 for the or18 release, and a buck at the hardware store for a heavier spring. Total cost $49, and I have 4 of them. My suggestion to Offshore would be to include the tattle setup. All the tattle amounts to is a wire, plastic washer, a tiny eyelet, one screw and another flag identical to the one you already have. That being said, it's still a heckuva board, and I like having the best.

What kind of spring are you getting? I have had trouble with the
springs from off shore! I need a stronger one! Thanks
The spring that comes with the tattle kit is pretty weak. Try Century Spring part number C-73, you can pull deep diving cranks without burying the flag, yet still detect if you hook up a small fish. If you want a super strong spring, go with the C-63, you can pull a size 0 dipsy and the flag mostly stays up! If you can't find them at your local hardware store, buy them online at http://doitbest.com good luck
