Spent from 9AM to 4PM on lake yesterday in full sun and my eyes feel like I've been watching welding without goggles. I had full wrap-around sun glasses on (UV and Poloroid) and finally put on polorid clip-ons under them. I need something one step below welding goggles. Better yet, I need to stay out of the noonday sun.

The best on the market is Ocean Waves brand shades. I worked for Johnson & Johnson Vision Products (who don't have any affiliation with these other than endorsing them as best) and had access to research data on how well certain shades filter UVA\UVB light and they stood out in a class by themselves. The intent of the tests and research data was to determine which was better from an eye health perspective. I believe they have a web site that tells about their glasses. I believe I have seen them in the BPS catalog and maybe Cabella's. They aren't cheap but, you asked for 'best'. There are some others that are close in filtering like Costa Del Mar and Maui Jims. However, OW are best for overall eye health. I wish I could wear them. I wear glasses which limits what I can wear for shades.

Jeff,
I forgot to mention that I wear glasses so need something that fits over. You'd think that with all the people who wear glasses they'd come up with something for us. thanks for you reply and I'll check their page to see if they have something in that style.

I used to get headaches from glare on the water or even off snow when I was hunting. I bought Hobie brand prescription polarized sunglasses and the solved the problem. At the time, Hobie was the only brand that offered variable bifocal prescriptions. Check the ads in flyfishing magazines, or get the Cabela's flyfishing catalog. I suspect our problems are minor compared to those saltwater flats bonefishing flyrod guys. Anyone who needs sunblock shirts, gloves, and hats with curtains on the back should have the greatest need for quality sunglasses.

I'm really sold on H30, interchangable's. Their platinum series satisfied my need for a better lens and the options of polarized and clear lenses makes the kit every pair of sunglasses you will ever need it one little case. Dark grey, light grey, amber, rose in polorized and yellow and clear in non-polorized. ( You get 3 in the case and can order what you want of the others) I can cover every light situation and change in a few seconds to what I need. Are they the #1 best lens on the market?? No they are not, but they are a very good product whose best value is in functionality. It's a nice wrap around style and the frames are comfortable. They also have something for those who wear glasses. Email me if you want contact information.

Do they make a wrap around perscription sunglasses? I am getting sick of contacts which allows me to wear sunglasses.

Before I had the LASIC operation in Jan 1999, I had perscription polarized lenses put in two pairs of RayBan glacier glass frames. They were the best I ever had for fitting close to my face and consequently cutting down on side light. They also have cable type ear pieces so they don't come off during hot action.

During spring cleaning this year I ran across these glasses. Took out the lenses since it would be a long shot that someone would match my old convoluted perscription and had planned to take them to a Lions Club drop box since I don't need them. If someone would like either or both frames, email me your mailing address and I would be happy to mail them out and let the frames have a second life with another fisherman :-). Almost any of the "glasses in an hour" places like DOC, Pearle, or Lenscrafters could put in new polarized lenses -- in an hour as they advertise if your perscription is in stock.

I have worn Bolle prescription sunglasses for the last 5 years (3 differnt prescriptions) they have the tinted plastic on the sides. They are heavy and take some getting used to. I get real glass in them because of all the water spray and I think(?) plastic would scratch real bad. I found them at Walmart, they didn't have the style I wanted so I had to make them order them and I mean make them so dont take no for an answer the cost was $160, hope this helps.

I would like them. I don't have any good frames and the eye doctor doesn't want to put perscription lenses in my current relatively cheap (cabelas) sunglasses. What is your email?

Mine is ericco@walleyecentral.com.

I have a pair of Ocean Waves (Chicago style) and have not been impressed. In the store they were fine. On the water I get a glare in the lens, they fog up, and sides don't keep out the light. The sides are uncomfortable (tight). For the money I paid, over one hundred $, I'm disappointed. So, I'm interesting in hearing your suggestions for a quality pair, for a respectable price. Thanks!
