I'm looking for a good rod-reel combo that isn't too costly for walleye and pike. Anybody help me out?
Not trying to be funny here, but what price range are you talking, and do you want a baitcaster, or spinning. are you going to be trolling , or casting? this will get you all kinds of answers after you answer these questions. good luck and good fishin.

typically, a baitcaster will work best for most pike presentations and some trollin' walleye options. the spinning outfits will work for fishing the 'lighter' walleye techniques best and will surely add excitement to any pike catching but won't do as well for the pike, because of needing to use lighter line, in a trolling situation. $100
surely should get you a nice combo...even less $.

I'm looking into spinners and will be casting, not trolling. Thanks for the help.
It would be best for you to go with two rod/reel combos. A bait caster for snot rockets and a spining outfit for eyes. If you want to stick with one for now I would go with a good spining reel with a 7' medium action rod and spools of different test line for eyes or rockets. My wife, who just started fishing for eyes and rockets this last year had good results with a Mitchel 301 and a decent rod I found for her.

I use a 6 1/2 foot medium action Ugly Stick with a shimano reel. I really like the sensitivity and you can't beat the strength.
Cant go wrong with a Berkley Lightning Rod. Somewhere from 6' to 7' in length. Many good reels out there. Main thing on reel is anti reverse feature for solid hook sets. The more bearings you have generally the smoother and longer lasting the reel will be.

Another vote for a Lightning Rod. If it's for both 'eyes and pike, get it in medium action. Couple it with the best Shimano spinnning reel you can afford, throw on some 10/4 Fireline, and you're good to go.
