I've been using the following setup on my leadcore rods: 100 yards of 14 pound mono as a backer, 5 colors of 18 pound leadcore, 30-50 feet of 10/4 fireline leader. It has worked well for me, with all 5 colors out I can get a #7 Shad Rap down to 30 feet at 2.5 MPH. Is there a better setup that would make me more versatile? Would there be any advantage to running more lead/less leader?
Thanks,

Brian, all depends on the water clarity of the lake you are fishing.
If water is clear, I would go with the long leader. If water is pretty stained I would have 10 colors of lead and use about 10 feet of leader line. Are you fishing right behind the boat or are you putting on in line boards? I fish in stained water so I use 8' of 12 lbs mono for leader, connect my leader to leadcore with small swivel.
Water is to dirty to spook fish, plus I don't break off when stuck in
the stumps as much. Hope this helps you>
