I'm committed (or should be ;-)) to attending a graduation in Des Moines a week from Saturday. I'm looking to ease the discomfort with a couple days fishing on Rathbun Reservoir. Can anyone recommend a motel/cabin for a couple of nights near the lake?

Try Buck Creek Cabins @ 515-724-9588. They are clean, located near the dam and have ample boat parking. Good Luck.

Hey!!
You may want to think about Red Rock Resovior (sp?) which is a lot closer to Des Moines..Local info here is that Rathbun is waaaayyy low and water temp still in the 50's..This could save you lots of driving and maybe put you on some better fish..Get out your atlas and check it out..
Don't know any accomidations but get on Yahoo and get in the map section and go to town..Have a party and good luck...

Rathbun is a little low, but then so are most of the lakes including Red Rock. The crappie bite has been spectacular at Rathbun. Those in the right place at the right time put some really nice walleyes in the boat at the IWTT last weekend, too. Water was 68 degrees on Sunday.
If you are taking the family, you might try the motel 60 in Centerville. It's a nice place with a pool and fish cleaning facilities. 800-437-7271
I believe they're having a crappie tournment on the 20th - may be diffficult to get a place to stay (or fish).
