We will be taking our boat to Ontario for the first time this year. I need to know if there are any regulations at the border I should be aware of, and also I've heard that yanks aren't affected bt the new operator permits for power boats. Is that true, and if not, how would I go about getting a permit?? Thanks in advance, Mike B.
Nothing unusual at the border. You are NOT required to have a Canadian operators permit.

You must have the following aboard your boat - Vest type PFD for each passenger; 50 feet of floating rope with a throwable flotation device attached; waterproof flashlight; approved sounding device.
Watch for rocks. Make sure you read the fishing regulations summary as there are lots of new regs. Limits and sizes can change from lake to lake. No minnows or leeches allowed across the border. Crawlers must be packed in paper bedding. Use Canadian money where possible like gas stations, resturants, any out of pocket expense. 46% exchange rate right now. Buy your money at the bank and not a commercial money changer for the bust rate. TGG

50' floating rope, weighted at one end
pfd for each person on board
sounding device (horn whistle etc)
two paddles or oars
bailing can

I'm pretty sure that's it, at least that's all there is in my boat.....lol!!!
