When rigging a grub should i rig it up or down?

I believe the action is the same whether it's rigged up or down. I prefer up only because when the tail stops turning I'd rather it be pointing up....especially if I'm on or near bottom.

I perfer up or on the hook side due to the fact that if the fish strikes that part of the plastic it will be closer to the hook. Thus acheiving more hook ups.
My 2 cents,

I always rig the tail down. This way it doesn't seem to whip around and get caught in the hook. If I'm tipping with a minnow I snip the tail right off. good fishing!

I rig it down with bait, and up without bait.

I always rig with tail down. I feel I get more action from the tail on the fall that way. But, I say do it whichever way gives you the most confidence in the bait. That's 95% of the battle!

Rex311,
If you are swimming the jig, (horizontal) tail up.
If you’re fishing vertical, tail down.

Down. Just my preference.

Howdy Rex,
Here is the basic physics of up or down. Then how I generally rig them.
Tail up, the jig will fall more horizontally and therefore a little slower.
Tail down, and the jig drops in a more head down position, thus it falls faster.
Add live bait, and this is not as noticable. Now, to my preference. I rig them tail down with live bait and tail up without. If I think of it. Sometimes the fish are a hittin and I am a re baitin and dont thik about the tail. It is more important to get the tail lined up straight to prevent the jig from spinning while verticle jigging or on a fast retrieve.
Good luck.......R

Casting tail down, hook rides higher up off bottom with tail kicking up mud. Tail up with out bait and in the water column swimming.

My vote would go for the tail down, especially if your swimming it. Just my 2 cents worth. Hutch

I go tail up for swimming and tail down for vertical.
Only because I saw it on one of Al's shows.
To be honest, I'm not sure it matters. It at least gives me a consistent approach and confidence.
