Fellows from Reeds tells me that the PinPoint GPS is complete and ready to ship this month. Says it is a cable-connect to existing 7520 and downloads it's software without sending the whole thing in to the factory for retrofit. Beyond that, he didn't have much detail.

Any one here know more?

Does it have WAAS?
Which maps does it use?
MRSP?
ETC......

SET the hook!!!

Pinpoints GPS was described in the January 2002 issue of Bassmaster Magazine which shows a picture of the unit, antenna, connecting cable, and small write up which is quoted as follows:

"Owners of Pinpoint sonar systems can now add GPS to their existing electronics with little effort. The GPS MapServer kit mounts under the dash and plugs into the sonar unit. A small antenna, which sticks to the boat surface, so drilling holes isn't necessary. The GPS Mapserver automatically upgrades any Pinpoint 7520, 7420, and 7320 sonar models manufactured after November 1999, along with earlier versions that have been upgraded with the more recent software. The 64 MB SmartMedia Card that comes with the package contains detail of all the US navigable rivers and lakes defined as having at least 10 miles of shoreline. There are no computer downloads necessary and no other accessories are required. Everything is included in the upgrade kit, which retails for less than $400.

The GPS MapServer uses the newly developed WAAS-based system for improved accuracy within 7 meters or less and is capable of three-second updates at any detail level. Other features include graphic icons for every marine or fishing use, multiple mapping, satellite and navigation screens and 5MB of memory for storing waypoints, plot trails, navigation routes, bottom surveys and viewsaver screens."

I checked Pinpoints website and they do not yet have the above description or pictures of the unit yet posted.
