I bought a few of them last year and was not overly impressed. I think they are OK for the kids but I'm looking at some Saint Croix and Loomis rods to replace them.
You can get a Heartland rod for the same, or lower price and get better feel.
I do not have the greatest touch, so I need all the help I can get.
Good Luck!

I will disagree with the previous 2 posts.
I have one and I think it is an excellent rod at a very fair price. I will most likely buy another one this spring to add to my arsenal.
Several friends of mine have also purchased them, and they like them as well.
In my opinion, you can spend a lot more money, and not get that much more rod.
I have found the Gander Mountain IM8 rods to be very sensitive, lightweight, with good backbone. Give them a shake at the store.
I believe you will be very satisfied with the IM8 series rod, and the price is right.

I certainly wouldn't get anything less than their IM8 in a medium heavy........the ratings are off a little........ the IM* is lightweight...........but there are better rods out there for sure
I HAVE USED GANDER MOUNTAIN RODS WHILE TOURNMENT FISHING FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH THEM.
THEY HAVE GOOD TROLLING AND JIG RODS WITH PLENTY OF BACKBONE AND SENSITIVITY. IM-7`s OR 8`s.
GOOD LUCK'

I also was checking out the Gander Mt. IM7 and IM8 rods the other day. The guy working there told me the blanks were St. Croix blanks. Does anyone no about this? Are they SCII, III, or specially made for Gander? How do they compare to other St. Croix? Thanks,
Todd

Gander rods WERE using St. Croix blanks up to a couple of years ago. But my understanding is that this stopped and has not continued for a couple of years. Old News. I hate when a store clerk doesn't have all the facts!

For the money they are great rods. I have several, the older ones I have are St. Croix blanks, the newer are imports. If you buy one now I'd recommend the IM-8. They are much more sensitive, and only about 10 bucks more than the 7's. For jigging I'd recommend a medium light in 6 to 7ft lengths.
For the money this is a good rod. For sure it is not a Loomis or St. Croix were you spend anywhere from $100-$300 dollars.
