John,
Power Pro will last a lot longer than Fireline. It's maybe a little finer dia., and has enough body to work well. I like it for superline application with boards, but I do not use it all the time. I'd try it on one or 2 rods for starters, and see what you think.

I like power pro much better than fireline, for boards and for jiggin, it's very easy to work with and extremely strong.

yes, new boards indeed.

I am kinda in the middle. I have been a big fan of fireline. Sometimes I find the color like to leak off, though dont know whether this is a big deal. Now, for big fish purposes, ie, muskie, I use powerpro exclusively. Fireline is still good in the small lb range.

I made the big change last year to power pro and have never looked back. It does fade to a lighter color after alot of use, but I have not one complaint about power pro line. But I can say that the only thing that I didnt like about fire line was that it fraid after lots of use.

Power pro glides through the guides smoother (maybe because it's round?) so it casts better. I like the way it goes limp when I am vertically jigging but on the down side, you will get more tip tangles than fireline in windy conditions when vert jigging.

Power Pro seems to hold up better, doesn't get frayed as easily, espectially near the end.

WOW that was a post from 2001. Where did you dig that up from. I have power pro on all my rods. I asked that question before I joined there pro staff. I wanted to know about the line from other people before I signed up.

I've had good luck with PP, I'm running 80lb on my muskie gear. It's been good.
I also like stealth, A few of the pos. over PP...it's coated so you don't get the resonating from the line on the guides as bad and it doesn't bleed color nearly as bad as the PP. Both very good lines but I give a slight nod to the stealth for the reasons above. I've already converted all my eye and smallie gear over to stealth, slowly making my way over on my muskie gear.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, just a few of my observations.

I have switched over to Power Pro for all my fishing, hard and soft water alike. Honestly over the past 6 years or so the only line problems that I have has were of my own making. Since I have switched to Power Pro I have used line tests up to 200 lb, and all have exceeded my expectations.

Adjusting my equipment to get the most out of the no stretch line while best balancing the situation presented by the various species I fish has been the biggest challenge.

My rod choices are now longer on average, and more moderate to extra fast in action.

My reel choices have also evolved reflecting new innovations that allow super braids to preform even better. Bails that are smoother and coated with titanium, spools with titanium coated skirts, long stroke reels, zero roll back, and smaller reels on average that can easily hold effective amounts of thinner braids without waist.

My favorite new reels for walleye class spinning action with Power Pro is the US REEL SX-180, and the US REEL SX-230. If you like to cast with spinning gear, be it light jigs, slip float rids, or minnowbait cranks, you will love this combination.

Absolute effortless casting with the US REEL design, easily 50% farther casts with the same about of effort as you would have used with any conventional reel. I had to train myself to hold back or over shoot my casts at first, it's that effortless.

So far using the US REEL with 2/10 to 5/15 Power Pro, I have had the total of "0"...zip..nada..F*U*B*A*R*S or loop knots to muck up my line. I'm very impressed to say the least with this reel design, it's a perfect match for super braids. Sounds like US REEL will have some new models out soon too, that will include some nifty new baitcasting models. I'm very interested in what new models they bust loose after ICAST.

I guess changing from mono to Power Pro had it's chalanges at first, you learn and adapt. Yet I feel it was worth it in the end.

Eddy,
I agree with you on the us reel design.
I am using the bass pro reel that is of the identical design and have been very impressed with its action as well. I figure about 20% longer casts with these reels compared to reels with smaller spools.

I also use only power pro. I think that the biggest advantage of power pro - over some of the other braids and fused line is that power pro is ROUND.
Since the line is round - it doesn't dig into the reels as much, the wind doesn't catch it like a flat line and over all much fewer problems.

Take care

Also Power Pro - just love the stuff. Casts better than Fireline, doesn't dig in the spool, and seems to be more abrasion resistant. I switched from Moss Green to Hi-Vis Yellow this year and absolutely love the stuff. I can line-watch, can see it to tie knots and it is semi northern resistant, at least if they don't swallow the jig.
