I would like to have two sonars working simotaniously, one on the front and one on the rear of my 20' Pro Elite. Side finder a definit
plus!!!

I currently have a Hummingbird Wideeye with 200khz/455khz down and I'm considering the Bottomline with 200khz down and 455khz to the side. I did some calculation on down cone angle overlap with 20 feet of separation and determined I could operate both
to a depth of about 60 feet. Does anyone disagree or think I should
consider other factors. Anyone doing this successfully.

How many having success with two units working simotaniously and to what depth??? What units are you using and what is the separation?

Thanks,

Randy

You can run both of these units at the same time as long as you run one unit at 200khz and the other at 455 khz. Operating the units like this you will not get any cross talk, running them at any depth. If you choose to run them both at the same time with the same frequency you'll get vertical lines on your locator screen that obscure you veiw of the bottom or any thing in between. Allen Tarvid has written an excellent article on this and you can find it in the August 2001 Bass and Walleye boats magazine. As far as detail the higher the frequency the greater the detail, but the higher frequency's do not penetrate deep water as well as the lower frequency. For average walleye depths up 120' these locators should work well...

I am currently running two Humminbird 300tx units. One on the bow with a wide side transducer mounted to my Minn Kota auto pilot, and the other in the rear with a Tri-Beam transducer on the transom. Not sure about the kHz on either one but they work fine together up to at least 45 feet that I know of. You are definatley correct in saying that side sonar is a great asset. Real "Eye opener" so to speak!!
