This is a great site and I get a lot of good information from all who post - keep up the good work! I live about 4 hours south of the Lake and usually make the trip north 3 or 4 times a year. We've been every year since 1987 and it seems the Walleye are a little harder for us to catch than during the late 80's/early 90's. We are not set up to troll so always drift fish, throwing erie dearies or dragging bottom bouncers. We have mostly fished the west end of the basin - A can, West sister and further west toward the shipping channel - usually in May and June. I've seen many posts that say the
lake is changing - the water is cleaner due to zebras, etc and that to continue to consistently catch fish, we need to change our approach also. My question is, how is the lake changing and what must we do to stay on the fish? Do we need to change our baits, our presentation, the time of day we fish, where we fish etc. Any insight is appreciated. We can't wait for our first trip of the year on May 9. Thanks in advance.

Its not that the lake is changing, but more the time of spawn do
to lack of ice, the rivers NOW are attracting the spawning
females and jacks, the reef complex is great but the big jacks
are west at Toledo, the lake patterns have not changed since I've
been going out there in the late 80s. Weather and wind is a key
factor on how well you do, Water temps cooled since last wk and
the clarity was poor after the tournament. Pods of bait are showing
up near shore and fishing will improve, weather permitting as always
Jig near the Toledo channel, it has been good there with the lower
water the last four years. Cleaner water there on strong blows from
W or NW.

Just got back from there for 2 wk annual trip.
