Scenario:

small midwest flatland reservoir situated south to north. No current to speak of in this body of water. Wind prevails out of the south causing the north shore to receive wave action and warmer water. The southern half of this reservoir is protected by hills and trees and stays fairly calm with southerly winds. The best spawning habitat is on the south side of the lake, (rip rap everywhere). the northern half is comprised of mostly sand and mud with a few small rocky points, but nothing significant. Also, the deepest area of the lake is the southern half, 40 ft. The northern half is 20 ft. deep at the deepest point. My question is will walleyes prefer ideal spawning habitat with poor current conditions or poor spawning habitat with ideal current. Obviously this is a stocked impoundment, but i was hoping for some insights as to where you would first look for the largest prespawn and spawning groups of fish.
