I FISH SAGINAW BAY PRETTY MUCH EXCLUSIVELY. I'VE NEVER FISHED WITH LEECHES, BUT THINKING ABOUT GIVING THEM A TRY. I DON'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT THEM AND WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFOR I CAN GET. HERE'S A COUPLE QUESTIONS. IF I'M OVERLOOKING ANYTHING PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

1. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT KEEPING THEM FRESH & ALIVE?

2. HOW DO I HOOK THEM? IN THE MIDDLE, TAIL, OR SUCKER END?

3. DOES HOOK SIZE MATTER?

4. BEST WAYS OF PRESENTATION? DRIFTING, JIGGING, OR WHAT?

5. IS LARGER BETTER, OR DOES SIZE REALLY MATTER?

6. I'M ASSUMING I SHOULD "LINDY-RIG" THEM. IS THIS A SAFE ASSUMPTION, OR ARE THERE BETTER WAYS?

7. WHAT TYPES OF LINE? WHAT SIZE? I'M ASSUMING THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO THE SAME THING I WOULD DO FOR JIGGING.

8. DO YOU JIG THEM, OR SLIP BOBBER, OR WHAT?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE.

Not a bad choice to mix in your arsenal....

1. Clean, fresh water is VERY important. It doesn't haven't to be cold but cool is good. In the shade in the boat or in the livewell in a leech holding container. I keep mine out while fishing and change the water during the day to cool it down. Change the water daily while storing them. NO chemicals in the water!! Nor should you use ice that has chemicals in it to add to leech water.

2. hook them throug hthe succker end.

3. When "rigging" a leech, the smaller the better. The lighter in weight the hook is..the better the leech looks and swims. With spinners....same as crawler hooks.

4. A leech may work with all forms of presentations....or may not. On the "Bay", we have used them very effectively at times on spinner rigs trolling.

5. Usually, the bigger the better. But rigging or slip-bobbering in COLD water, the small ones are more active and maybe better.

6. Fish leeches on or with any livebait presentations. Most of the time...the slower presentaions work best.

7. Match the line to the presentations, just as you would for trolling spinners/crawlers or rigging/jigging a minnow or crawler.

8. Again.....any way can be effective with leeches. Slip-bobbering being a great way to present a leech...IFFFF..the "spot" is small enough to anchor on and requires a need to fish very precisely.

Good Luck!!!!!
