Just purchased some spoons and jet divers to add to my aresenal since they have been getting so popular on Erie. I was wondering if any body can give me a little advice on how to get started on a set up...leader length, how much line to let out, speed, etc; Thanks for any help guys.
Most guys run 6' leaders. With spoons or harnesses a Sampo ball bearing snap swivel at both ends will solve the twisting problem (don't try to get away the cheaper ones).
Speeds are generally around 2 to 2.5 mph. A good starting point is 100' for a drop length, but adjust to the fish.
My best tip would be to tune the jet. They must track straight to run true and get the depth. To tune them bent the big snap (rack it into a cresent shape) bending the top of it in the direction you want the jet to go.
We use a special link to make this easier. The links are like what the original Hot-N-Tots had on the bill, but they have one larger loop that fits on the Jet.
Good luck and good fishing.
