I want to put together a jig kit and could use all the input on what, how many, color, size. Jig bodies as well as shad, leeches and any other plastic I would need in USA or Canada. Sizes of jig heads would help too. Thanks to all who answer.

Tough question to answer well. There are so many situations, and jigs can do so much. All those specialty jigs and color choices too.I'll just get this started I guess.
Size is what matters most, at least when it comes to jigs, so the first priority is to get an assortment of sizes. 1/16th, 1/8th, 1/4, 1/2,5/8th, to 1oz should cover a lot.
For shape,I'd get ballheads. You can cast or vertically jig them, and they're usually cheaper than specialty ones.
For color, you can start by getting unpainted ones. Cheaper.
Bait is hard to beat, but if you want artificials I like the Power Baits myself.Twisters, jigworms, and power minnows cover the range of aggressive to more subtle action.
That's the basics I guess. Anything else is just refinements.

Fuzzy Grubs, stinger hooks, rattles, river jigs (flat sided), hair jigs, twister tails, power bait, stand-up jigs (lipstick jig or one of a number of other varieties of standup jig), some fireball jigs, a few oddball jigs and maybe even some with a prop on it. With the jigs that are in the weight range for the majority of your fishing cover the colors chartruese, orange, green, blue, white, yellow, black, glow, parrot, firetiger and a few other color combinations that look good to you. I always have a growing selection of jigs in weights lighter and heavier then I fish with most the time. For instance I don't have a big selection of 1/2 oz and heavier jigs, but when I go to the Mississippi I load up on the local fare. Seems like that's the best way to get the best jigs, especially when it comes to things such as hand tied hair jigs etc.
And that's only the begining.
Good Luck and step up to the jig bar,

When do you have an evening free so that I can answer this question? LOL Seriously though, this is a tough question since no two jigging situations are alike. Thats the very reason they make so many different jigs in so many different colors. You will have some people tell you color does'nt matter. I believe it does.
I personally like the jigs form Gopher Tackle as they are sprayed, not dipped, no paint to punch out of the eyes, and you have a multitude of hook choices like VMC, Gamakatsu, Mustad, Eagle Claw, and Owner. Not very many places offer that.
Every place has different colors that tend to get "Hot", but get a good selection of fluorescent's, standard, and glow colors. 111/16 through 1 0z. should cover everything you'll need weight wise. I have two jig boxes that weigh about 80 pounds each, and am always adding more to them! LOL
For plastics I like Power Baits jig worms, or Bass Assassin shads.
Don't forget to juice up the Bass Assassins with your choice of scent.
Good Luck shopping!

Thanks to all who answered. It seems like I have some shopping to do. I am thinking about putting together a basic jig kit, and let it grow as time goes on. Once again Thanks for the help. JJ
