I hope they tell us this month! I realize they have anounced the tournament date which is great but as far as taking vacation goes location does matter.

In my case it could be a difference between a 200 mile drive or a 1,000 mile drive.

Walleye Anglers...

I was comfortably enjoying the holiday with my family and had no idea that there was a big commotion going on about the announcement of the 2004 National Team Championship until I returned to work this morning. Our staff has identified that the confusion came in the form of a typo on the "2004 National Team Championship Qualifier RSVP." The form was suppose to read that we would announce the championship site "After January 1, 2004," consistent with the last two years, as opposed to announcing "On January 1, 2004."

We deeply apologize for the confusion and very much appreciate the tremendous interest. We are not quite ready to announce the site yet, but will do so in the very near future. This years process has taken a bit more time due to the tremendous interest shown by numerous communities to host this years championship. We very much appreciate every communities interest and have taken the time to explore every opportunity.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at cbahl@cabelas.com if you have any questions regarding the Cabela's National Team Championship.

The announcement you reference doesn't answer everybodies questions.

Where is the tournament?

or WHEN will Cabela's announce the location?

An answer to the latter would sufficient.

I didnt say it answered anyones questions.

My point was there was a statement made for anyone who didnt see it.

My son and I are trying to prepare for the Cabela's 2004 tourny. We are wondering if you or anyone know when the location announment will be. We appreciate your help and information and will await any reply.

Thanks,

Jerry and Brian White

Jerry,
I recieved a e-mail from Chris Bahl with Cabela's on the 23rd stating that it will be a couple more weeks before they can make the anouncement for the location of the NTC. We will just have to hang on a little longer.

I sent mine in already as I plan on going where ever it is held. I could be wrong But, I thought it stated they all had to be in by the first of Feburary or they wouldn't except them? I had to put in for my vacation, so I added two days more than I wanted to just to allow travel time should it be on the other side of the country. I have been to two of them and the closest one was 1,200 miles away.

I guess I have 3 choices.

1. Don't prefish the tourney.

2. Take 2 days vac. to drive home.

3. Use 2 wks vac. for the Cabelas' Tourney and forget about 2
local tourneys.

My son and I qualified last Aug. 8 for this tourney. Why hasn't Cabelas done their homework by now? I have a lot of respect for Cabelas and know several of their employees personally, but this is absolutely RIDICULOUS!

I live way out west, so the travel time will be long wherever the tourney is held. The fishermen from the east are in the same situation. My company requires that we take time off in 5 working day increments. As much as I have looked forward to meeting and fishing with lots of my Walleye Central friends at this event, it is beginning to look like I am going to have to pass. My vac. request has to be in by Jan 31. If the event is in Minn. or Wisc. great. Any further east would not be good. I have 4 kids and a wonderful wife. A family vacation has to fit in with my summer time off.

I have been following all the posts on this tourney for the last few months, and have been tempted to respond to lots of comments. The only one that I feel comitted to respond to is the one from JULS in Ohio. Most of the Cabelas National Tourney qualifiers have been VERY patient! Yes, I would like to fish against you too! Patience has nothing to do with my situation.

I guess I also have a 4th choice. I have to tell my 8 yr old son, who caught the 10 lb+ fish that gave us enough weight to place, that we will have to pass on the Cabelas tourney.

Will I continue to spend money at Cabelas? Yes, I will. I think that the people involved with the planning of this event know that they screwed up this time. Cabelas is a good company, but Bass Pro is going to get a lot more business from me and a few of the other qualifiers who had to turn down their spot.

Good fishing to all.

Not only does the site matter as far as how much vacation time we will need but if tourney is held on one of the great lakes most of the boats that qualified from our club won't go. This is supposed to be open to all qualifying teams not just ones with great lakes boats. Even though I'm sure someone with a smaller boat could find somewhere to fish he would be at a tremendous disadvantage. Also the equipment used on great lakes is much different than we would normally use which would mean a big investment in equipment in order to compete on the same level, most of us aren't pros and have day jobs which I thought was what this deal was all about.

This is the sesond year that Cabelas has let the club fisherman down. Last year they did not announce the dates until almost January 1st, almost every club had set there dates for there local tourneys & it really messed up the my club which had to change a tournament last year after the late anouncment.

This year they give us the date which was much apericated but now this. I can tell you & am at the end of my rope with them. This delay is messing my whole tournament season up trying to decide where to go with limited time off work & not knowing how far the travel time will be. If this is about MONEY with the host town they have gone way to far. Two years ago the day after Thanksgiving Cabelas did over $25 MILLION dollars in business just with phone orders, this is not counting on-line sales & there stores. I can tell you this unless I can't find something anywhere else they have seen my last dollar.

How many teams do you think have already dropped them for consideration as a tournament this year?

I'm guessing more than a few.

Your feelings are the same as MANY other qualifiers we know. Cabelas should be announcing where the 2005 tournament will be held right now. Or better yet, they should have the Championship Tournament the same year that people qualify! Another sentiment that I have heard expressed over and over again, is how can Cabela's qualify their own employees by having a tournament that only employees can fish... and then when the wind comes up, vote not to fish, but to just qualify everyone that was going to fish. This is supposed to be the "True National Team Championship". Most of the qualifiers had to be consistent enough and put in their time and effort to fish a whole circuit and place well enough to make the cut.
