PWT Pro Anglers
With entries due Jan. 23, the phone calls have been streaming into
PWT offices. Answers to the questions most often asked may be helpful for
you.
First, What about the pro seminar schedule on the PWT web site? Each pro is featured with a photo and seminar schedule. To appear on the web site, forward data to Julie, by replying to this e-mail.
Second, Lodging at Winneconne? Many resorts and motels are located around the area. If in doubt, contact the Wolf River Resort at 920-582-4555 or the Chamber at 920-582-4775.
Lodging at Cass Lake? Many anglers will stay resorts on the lake and motor to the take-off site in front of Stony Point Resort. The Chamber
number: 800-356-8615.
At Bull Shoals, the resorts located around the lake can accommodate pro anglers who can keep their boats in the water. It's permissible to run to and from lodging facilities before and after competition hours. Bull Shoals Boat Dock (tournament headquarters) will route callers to available
lodging, 870-445-4424. They will also refer you to nearby facilities. The
Boat Dock will accommodate anglers who want to keep boats in the marina, but they do not accept reservations; take care of this when you arrive. Check rooms at Bel'Arco Resort, 866-235-2726.
At Lake Erie, the Holiday Inn Select (216-241-5100) is offering special flat room rates of $65. This is within walking distance of the boat yard and the weigh-in. Most meetings will be held here. Many anglers will keep their boats at area marinas.
Third, What's the payout? It will be increased from 2003, with the top 10 receiving approximately 8 percent more, and 11th thru 40th earning about 18 percent more. For reference, payouts were increased 21 percent in 2003, from 2002. The top 10 places all received from $5,000 to $63,000
(first prize included Lund/Mercury boat). The PWT did not originally post
the payouts this season, because like many anglers, we are awaiting "news" from a potential sponsor. That wait continues. If we receive the words we want, it will mean more money to the pro purse.
Fourth, Some prospective amateurs have called asking if the tournaments are filled. Apparently the perception exists and some feel that is the case. Through your seminars, radio shows, contacts at fishing clubs and stores, advise anglers they may still enter as amateurs. Have them call PWT headquarters (218-829-0620) or go to the web site.
Fifth, A maximum of 10 rookie pros per division will be admitted into the limited fields. Many candidates with excellent credentials have already applied. The deadline for pro applications is Jan. 23, but entries received sooner will make the credentials committee workload easier. No credit cards will be assessed (deposit fee) until late January or early February.
Sixth, What's the new dress code? Read the rules, then if you have questions, call Charlie (218-824-2532) or Jim (218-824-2552). The sharper the image of all contestants, the easier it is to tell the world you are the best at what you do. It also works well for the cameras.
Seventh, We don't want to miss any media opportunities. If you think your local radio stations or newspapers are not receiving PWT news, let us know, and we will add them to our e-mail news release list. This is an easy way for your local media to track your results and report your successes.
Eighth, South Dakota requires boat registration numbers (or a copy of a registration application). Temporary state numbers are available from Fish & Game.
Finally, At Winneconne, the PWT has imposed a no-wake rule from the railroad bridge at Gills Landing upstream to New London on the Wolf River. This regulation begins April 16, and runs through the final day of
competition, April 23.
