This question kinda tags off of two current posts. (Minnema/Tracker and Illinois Gov. Cup) I didn’t want to appear to hijack them and am not trying to stir the pot here. (Well, maybe a little) Just an honest question for you folks who actually fish in the RCL Tour.
How do you feel about the RCL allowing a person to enter the RCL Championship having never fished in an RCL Tour event? Seems ridiculous to me! It’s quite possible to have someone fishing their first pro/am event at the RCL Championship.
I could almost be convinced that allowing the top RCL League finishers be invited makes sense, but that seems to stretch it since the RCL League has their own Championship.

as far as i'm concerned, the RCL is for ameaters, the pwt is the true pro circuit. anyone can qualify for the rcl`,and that's why it's not a pro-circuit.

MARKETING MARKETING MARKRTING!
The game is to sell as many Ranger, Lund and Crestliners as possible. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Look, they put 2500 guys on their prostaff and get them to fish and tell everyone that they are pro fishermen. GREAT marketing, guys that have never done anything in their entire fishing lives are now pros!
Smartest thing Ive seen in fishing in along time!

So, when I fish the PWT I'm a true Pro, but when I fish the RCL this year, I'm just an AM? You have issues dude.
The RCL is working on getting a stand alone championship for it's TOUR competitors. It's not a question of WHY don't they have one, it's a question of WHEN will they have one? And, I hope that answer is SOON! The circuit is still relatively young and the people in charge (Charlie and Charlie) need to see that a stand alone championship is what is going to make this Tour as successful as it can be, and take it to the next level. There is no question about that.
Right now, it's NOT a championship to find out who is the best of the best in a Tour Circuit, but rather a "Walleye Championship" for anyone that runs their RCL boats, and qualifies through a qualifying circuit. I don't like it, but it's not my game and not my ball. I don't make the rules. I just play the game, and I plan on winning the game whatever the rules are.
Don't bash the RCL. They are just as important to the future of competitive fishing as the PWT is. Competition is a good thing. Remember that.

That's an interesting answer. I have not thought of it in that context. Thanks.
Good to hear the RCL is looking at a Tour Championship. I was not aware of that.

The RCL and Cabelas have Championships! They are for marketing only! The best of the best as they like to call it, in no way is this the best of the best! It is one of the best marketing tools out there!

There is no choice as an amatuer--> get a bunch of lures or the chance at 100,000 thats why as an AM I fish the RCL; As a pro 300,000 to the winner makes it worth any pro to try and win it.
I am sure Dan Plautz would rather have the winnings Tom Kennen earned.
Prestige or not money goes a long way. I also believe the PWT is going to turn into a good old boys network and make it really hard for anybody but the old Pros (which I will say is what brought me to the sport and who I still follow)and make it really hard for any newcomer to brake into the circuit after this year. The RCL is trying to pull the winners from other circuits in an attempt at a true national championship, but with the boat ownership rules it kind of taints their effort. I agree it is impossible for Keith K. to fish in it as a Tracker Pro, which means it is not a true Walleye NATIONAL Championship so as a lover of the sport I will take the good with the bad of both and surf the RCL Web-site and be a member, while also eagerly awaiting my Walleye In-Sider to see the results in print and sticking on Walleye-Central and watching the live leaderboard to feel like I am at all the tournaments, and be thankful there are so many oppurtunities for Walleye Fisherman and try to remain sane while the longest Winter in history refuses to go away.

The Illinois boys are some fine fisherman, and some very good sticks who ever wins the Illinois cup deserves a spot in the RCL or any quilifying tournament. The RCL has made some changes on the championship if you would of read the rules top 120 in tour points go to the championship which leaves only 60 for the smaller tournaments.A little different from last year.why are you comlaining about two of the best fisherman from Illinois or any other state Qulifying tournament. If they win one of these tournament which belive me is harder than you think. I think after the changes made this year there is nothing wrong with that. And yes I do run the RCL and PWT.

The only reason there has not already been a "Tour" championship is because the sponsors, which are many besides Genmar, don't think it has enough exposure. For them to make the sales to justify this "tour" they need as many participants using their products as possible. That is the bottom line. If they restrict the championship to just those 200 or so people who fish the whole tour, they won't sell enough product. They need all 2500 or however many it is to buy their product so they can justify to their stockholders why they are sponsoring this owners club tournament.

Yes! I agree where else can a am/co-angler have a shot at serious money? I hope the RCL stays as is. Not everyone can get the months off work or invest 30K/year to fish a circuit.I will not mortgage myself to death in order to attempt it. I want to retire at 55 and not eat Alpo for dinner every night.

Here we go again... You're not a pro, he's not a pro, that's not a true championship, 'they' shouldn't be allowed, etc., etc...
One fairly warm day and cabin fever sets in. This line of argument has been beat to death over the last few years. All that matters is:
- each circuit makes its own rules
- those that want to fish it abide by those rules
Nothing else matters...until personal egos are injected into the argument. Then this is what we get.

I think the format is great for both sides am's and pro's. It make the guy that doesn't have the time or money to comit to a full pro curicut a chance at some real money. Like some already said if you don't like the rules don't play the game.
