I am looking at purchasing a new fish finder very shortly and was wondering what you guys thought about the Zercom line in particular the Z160? Do any of you own one or have had the opportunity to use one (good/bad)any help will be greatly appreciated.
Also, what exactly is Liquid Paper Display and does any other model offer it? Is it better than regular LCD views?
Thanks in advance

Crawdaddy, I have not had the oppertunity to use the Z160 on the water; however we have been using its "big brother", the LPG 2000 for the past few years. I have played with the 160 on the shelf and compared the two that way. We can't say enough good about our Zercom, the resolution mimics that of the "old" paper graphs but in a liquid crystal display. Both units offer incredible definition; but the 2000 boasts 16 shades of grayscale where the 160 has only 8( still twice that of many other brands). If you are looking for a unit to be used as your main depth finder, I would strongly reccomend the LPG 2000. But if this is not in your budget range, the Z160 is an excellent alternative. Another difference in the two is that the larger unit uses a dual signal transducer giving you a better "real time" echo reading. This unit will track an 1/8 oz jig on the display screen. Whichever unit you decide on, I think you will be greatly satisfied.
In case you didn't know, the Zercom line has recently been acquired by Humminbird; so their newest model is the Humminbird Legend 3000(which looks identical to the LPG 2000). Also, if you haven't decided on a dealer, My sponsor can give you more info on these units and she's pretty competitive with her prices. She can be contacted at www.everythingforboats.com ; tell her Sam sent ya.
Good luck with your decision, hope I helped some.

Have a Z160 that is not the best. Put on the boat and have had trouble with it from the start. Sent back now for it's second refurbishing. Several freinds bought the units and they are not happy with the performance either. The 2000 is a better unit but still I know of several units that have had trouble. The baiit shop that sold me the unit has had to return several. the problem that I have been haveing is the screen changes and does not read correctly. Now run Lowrance LMS 160 and X-85 and a Vexilar Edge The edge is a very good unit for the money.
