Winneconne and the Winnebago Chain is under a a huge assault from the wind as I type this post. Woke last night at 2am to a shaking house with a report the wind may have hit 58 mph. This wind is from the West, and it came/is coming directly East to me here in Manitowoc - a scant 45 miles from the lake.
There are plenty of good river places to fish regardless of the wind, but no doubt in my mind the fish are going to stack up on the eastern shorelines, with the rocky area on the north and east shoreline of Winneconne being a top pick, as well as the neck down at the 41 bridge, the shallow rock riprap Center West in Butte des Mortes, and the shallow water on the North South points in the same. At least that's where I'd fish!
If the wind dies before the tourney, it'll be a hot bite!

Dude, the tournament starts on wednesday and the wind was on sunday night. Don't think the fish stay stacked up in a particular area for an extended period of time just because there was strong wind 5 days before. How long do you think they stay over there?
Most of the fish are still inthe upper lakes and the rivers anyway right now. Anyone going from winneconne to the east side of bago better be on fish.

UHH, dud, I don't see any mention of the east shore of Bago. Seems to me he was referring to Winneconne, and Buttes des Mortes. Besides, Sunday to Wednesday is 3 days, and if the wind up there is anything like SE WI today, that would make it 2 days. And I believe fish will stay stacked up for a couple days after a big blow. You think the baitfish pack up and leave immediately after the wind stops?

That's right Shep! It's my experience it takes a day or two for the water to settle, then hang on to your rods! :-)

It's 4:30 Tuesday morning as I type this and the wind is really nasty. It just could be that all the prefishing might not mean much now. A lot of the contestants will be shaking their heads today. I think the bight will be pretty tough for most.

Uhh is right, there is no way those walleyes will be there. I think it would be a waste of time to go there, don't do it. At least for my sake. I'm only kidding Uhh. Those fish will be there for two to three days, longer if she keeps blowing.
Shep, could you send me an e-mail of your down rigger set up again. I want to rig my boat and I want to use your idea. I also wantto join your Wolf Pack on the pond come August. Thats after I catch some of those wind swept eyes on bago.
Good luck to all.

Well, the wind was strong from the East all day and the temperatures have dropped. This will turn them walleyes off.
Talked to a friend who is competing and he said the water is the color of chocolate milk (that's bad), and he didn't catch a single legal fish today. He said the switch in wind from very strong West to North then strong East has really stirred the water up and thinks anyone with even a limit of smaller fish tomorrow will be in good shape. All this reminds of of last year's PWT East Division weather.
My friend has a game plan set for the first tourney day - and that's to treat it (tomorrow) as another pre-fishing day!

If the wind dies down there will be a ton of guys looking on the east shore of bago for big girls, and a bunch of guys looking in the upper lakes for the large Males...as the day winds down....many will be going after the newly changed minimum size 14"ers to fill teir limit before weigh in! Gonna be interesting to see what comes in! I think you're gonna see an impressive weight after day 3!

Craig,
Will do. It'll be after I get back from Erie in a week. Hope that's OK.

How the heck can they change the size limit to be weighed the day before the tournament?
Terrible decision on the PWT's part. They should have stuck to what was in print for months.
