We take the golf clubs with us wherever we go, for that very reason. Fortunately for us, we live in Port Clinton, so the packing was easy. ;-)
There are several good courses around here. The closest would be Catawba Willows on Sand Road, which is a good course with lots of water and trees. Thunderbird North and South courses are nicer, more expensive, and over in Huron, right off of Rt. 2.
I think you would like Catawba Willows though, if you like a challenge. Not to mention...it's close to "home".

p.s. If it blows, give us a call, we'll be more than happy to go play with you. 419-835-7347 (cell)

WAZZ,
As Juls said Thunderbird Hills in Huron is a nice course (36 holes). If you want a real challenge try Sawmill Creek near Sandusky. Another real nice course about 45+/-minutes south (worth the drive IMO) is Eagle Creek just south of Norwalk. It's a pretty good track with bent grass fairways, but reasonablly priced.
