View Full Version : SD WWA - How to get more people fishing it?

Fished my first WWA tourney on Sunday and enjoyed myself, despite the wind and waves. But I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of teams, considering there was a 140-team tournament there the day before.

So I have been asking myself what is the deal? Is it the payouts? I think that wouldn't be the case, because if more people fished it, the payouts and the places paid out would increase. First place with the local tournament was $3,000 I believe with 140 teams. WWA payout was $1,200 with 20 teams. Was it a bad idea to have tournaments on consecutive days, making it too costly for the average tourney fisherperson? Or too much time commitment with people coming out early before Saturday's tournament and wanting to go home Saturday night?

Again, I enjoyed the tournament and think Steve has some positives going for the WWA. Just thinking out loud I guess as to how to get more teams involved.....

There are so many tournaments these days that the tournament anglers are spread pretty thin. You also had a fairly poor bite and a bad weather forecast which didn't help.

Hi Skis, how was the bite? I'm done out there for the year but if it works out I might try that tourney next year. My experience with tourneys has shown that Sunday tourneys are a tough draw. Especially if anglers are driving any distance. Most tourneys out there have been established over the years and have many return anglers every year. Plus it didn't help that another one day tourney was the day before. Where Easter landed this year I think screwed up the schedules a little.

We had a good bite except the last 4 hours on Sunday!! Caught some nice keeper fish every day I was out there and I think of all the fish we caught over 3 days, only one would have been under 15".

Fish still haven't spawned. I am heading out there in a couple of weeks to prefish with a couple of guys before the PWT and hope that the spawn is done and the fishing is better. Not lots of numbers (could have kept our limit Friday & Saturday), but size was nice.

Unfortunately Ski's there's alot of water under the bridge with the WWA. I would suggest the GNWC circuit, far more organized/better run/more professional/and a way better championship. Try it you may like it!!! Dan if you would like to contact me or thw WWA would like to contact me here's the addy denherderj@sio.midco.net
