I was talking with a fellow fisherman last night and in the discussion I mentioned that Wyoming was probably hosting one of the largest (payout wise) amateur tournaments in the country. Just wondering what everybody else out there has for big amateur tourneys so I know if I was just pulling this guys leg.

Wyoming Governors Cup
$60,000 payout - based on 150 boats
$25,000 1st place guranteed
Pay's down 20 places
2 places for big fish per day

It's not free however - Entry is $500 per team

Cabelas Championship pays twice that to the winners.

I believe the Wave Wacker tournament on Mille Lacs is a larger tournamtent if you consider it an amature event. Costs about $1200 to enter, pays to 40 places, and usually has a few more boats. I'm not sure about the pay out though.

Wouldn't the fact that there is any entry fee and a cash payout make it a Professional event. Am I missing something here?

Hardly anybody at these can write them off for the IRS.

Let's try to keep it apples to apples. Can anybody on the street send in a an entry form for the Cabelas Championship?
