Planning a trip to Mille Lacs in June. Haven't fished it before. I know it's huge. Just wondering if anyone had some relevant info for me. I've heard that one needs to find the mud flats. Is that true? Do the walleyes bite primarily at night? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bernie,
One doesn't have to fish the flats in june. Old addage on the lake says that if the wind blows fish the rocks, if no wind fish the flats. Flats are easy to find if you have GPS, if not look for the boats. Fish the breaks on the flats, you are probably going to be drifting or trolling with spinner harnesses with leeches or crawlers. Rock fishing is slip bobber or crankbaits. Fish will bite day or night on the flats. Rock or reef fishing is early morning or late night with lighted bobbers. Yes its a big lake but you can break it down pretty quickly depending on the conditions. Good luck

One thing to consider when fishing Mille Lacs is the night fishing ban.
The regulation states: "No one may fish for any species or posses fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. starting at 10 p.m. on May 15 and ending at 12:01 a.m. on June 12".
