this is kind of an update for those of you who gave information to me after my friends ice shack was stolen. well, we built a new one. it is a all wooden sided shack. now my question is: what do you guys use for an achor on your shacks(if any)? i guess we are kind of paranoid now after the last one was stolen but i guess we can't give up!!
thanks guys,

Years ago on a small house I had 4x8 I'd drill holes on the windward side and attach a rope to an outside handel. Throw the rope in the hole and let it freeze. Saw many small houses headed southeast on their side especially with little or no snow. This wont help you from thieves but it keeps it upright. Just think less than 100 years ago we hung people for stealing a horse. I don't know do you suppose those PETA people were around then. One thing I learned is I don't leave anything I don't want to loose anymore. Good luck.

One more bit of advice Ryan poor college kid -- stay in school, it will help you pay for the unreal price of your toys to come. It will also keep you in good graces with the other half--they don't need to know your new prop for your boat was $600.00. I don't suggest that you need to be deceptive but somethings are better left alone. Also she may understand it better if you took her out for a weekend in a big city night out close to a Marine dealer. Good luck.

Take a wooden stick, about a 2" by 2" square and about 2' long. Tie a rope in the middle and push it down the hole. When the stick straightens out, pull up tight on it under the ice and tie it off to something in your shanty. If you position it right, you can leave it this way till your done for the season or you move your shanty.

This may sound silly, but paint that shack pink or bright yellow something bright so if it is stollen it will stick out like a sore thumb. If you have wheels on it, take off all but one nut so if they make a get away, that one with the nut will sheer off and they won't be gettin far.

Don thats the best advice I have heard yet to prevent theft. Kinda like teach your kids to scream bloody murder if a stranger is trying to make them do or go somewhere they do not want to.
Pay attention to whats going on around you and don't take nothing for granted like Oh the new neighbors are moving and we didn't get a chance to meet them as they are being robbed with a rental truck.
This Atta fellow who was caught in Eagan MN for trying to learn crop dusting was pointed out by someone who thought it odd and reported it.
In this new era we have entered it pays to pay attention.
Thanks
