I had wondered about this also. The Iowa GNWC cup gets between 50 and 60 teams at every event. You would think there would be interest in a Iowa RCL league.I would love the angler-co/angler part of it.Does anyone have a idea on this?

Maybe a "calling tree" of sorts to the RCL would show enough interest to make them think about it??????????????
Hi Ryan:
Yes, I think the RCL League would do well in Iowa. You've got lots of good walleye waters in Iowa. Of course, with Genmar's sale of Crestliner and Lund to Brunswick (Merc), the name may change for 2005, but who cares. The interest in the RCL League in Wisconsin has been phenomenal this year. I think we've had a full field for the first two tourneys and I'm pretty sure Winnebago is set 100+ boats.
The more people that contact Sonny from Iowa, the better the chances of "y'all" getting in on the action next year. I would think Ohio and Illinois would be good bets as well.

If they do it I hope they don't follow the footsteps of the GNWC, especially in their early years. The GNWC or Iowa Walleye trail as it was known back then chose some poor locations at the wrong time of the year. For example, Storm Lake in April, ya right, good luck, I think there was only a few fish caught in the entire tournament, I know it was less than 10, but 2 was probably closer. My point is whoever starts these tourney circuits needs to do some serious research with local fishermen, clubs, and bait shops to try to schedule their events at productive times of the season. If the catches are poor the circuit will not thrive.

Got a e-mail from Sonny today and he did not know if Iowa would be added in the future or not.But the more interest they hear from Iowa anglers the better.
Iowa DNR does not allow tourneys to be held during the summer months unless the weigh fish are cleaned and donated to different places. The tourney in June goes out of the Wisconsin side of the river. So it can be very hard to try to "time" the bite on some of these waters.Plus Iowa does not have some of the super hot spots that other states do and I think that is what is hurting us to get the RCL League-is there enough demand?
I would say the Iowa Great Lakes,Clear Lake, and one on the Miss. River would do it for the 3 RCL League qualifiers.
