I have just been notified that I have been transfered to Madison Wisconsin which is wonderfull as I believe there are many great walleye waters within this area. Is this True? What good Walleye waters are close to Madison, Wi? Also, How many of you are from around the Madison area or how many good Walleye Guys do you know are from around the Madison Area? Can any one give me any info on some local walleye clubs around the area? Also info on Walleye tournaments in Wisconsin? Thanks For your info and can't wait till I get there.

The Yahara Fishing Club is probably the best club in the Madison area.
Scott Hogland is from the Madison area, and a member of the club. He is always willing to help fellow anglers.
He and I fished tournaments together, so I know how good he is! I don't want to leave his email address on the site without his permission, so if you want to email me your address I can get your request to him. I can be reached at juls@walleyecentral.com
If you get a chance to see his seminar, make sure you sit in on one. He has a great presentation on trolling with planer boards and fishing the Madison area lakes.

Try the hot water outlet of the power plant on Lake Monona just north of the conference center.

I'll help with gettin you started, drop me a e-mail wallytap@yahoo.com. The PWT came here and even they had a tough time, which made me feel alittle better knowing the best of the best found these waters can be very dificult at times.Madison has eyes but Winnebago or Green Bay would be more productive.Don't be shy,e-mail anytime.

If you are interested in fishing the Madison Chain (Mendota, Monona, Yahra River, etc), goto D&S Bait (www.dsbait.com) they can get you started. In addition to the Madison chain, you are pretty close to the Wisconsin river and it has nice flowages like Petenwell, Castle Rock, Lake Wisconsin. You have lots of options within a close distance.
Welcome to the "Peoples Republic of Madison"!
Welcome to the area! We are fortunate to have decent walleye action right in the middle of the city (Lake Mendota) and on nearby lakes (Waubesa and Kegonsa). This makes getting out for a few hours after work very easy.
There are also many, many more lakes and rivers in the southern part of the state that offer decent walleye fishing (too numerous to list here). In addition, you will be within a short drive from some of the more 'famous' walleye waters in the area - The Winnebago Chain, Wolf River, Wisconsin River, Green Bay, and the mighty Mississippi. Furthermore, the area affectionately referred to as 'Up North', is covered with lakes, large and small, clear and stained, deep and shallow that are full of walleye. Your toughest decision will be where to start.
Drop me a line anytime if you have any questions.

Welcome to Wisconsin! You'll love it! Madison puts you in the 2-3 hour range of great fishing. And great tournaments.
The above responses have given you good info on local lakes. You could spend a lifetime learning the lakes and rivers mentioned. Seasonally, you'll start the season on the Wisconsin River and Mississippi River. Good fishing is possible right now on those rivers. Try the Wisconsin Dells early before the masses show up or the Genoa area right now.
As indicated earlier, Mendota can be very difficult to learn and is not a consistent producer. It's known for big fish and the attached lakes are known for numbers but not size. A very good local guide is Travis Richards. He knows the Madison chain very well.
As far as tournaments, check out TFM Productions. I have enclosed a link. http://www.fishtfm.com/
Lake Winnebago is not far from you and there are tourneys on that lake almost weekly. You probably already know that the RCL, PWT, Merc Nationals are all having tourneys on Winnebago.
Don't be afraid to email and ask more questions. I'll take you fishing if interested.

Congrats! I just moved from the area, spent the last 8 year there. LOVED IT! Sauk City area is great! Hills, and the river! Now back up in La Crosse.
Skip the DELL's masses and head straight for the Mississippi! Excellent fishing, should be a banner year with the extremely high water levels last year, there were alot of big walleyes that tourists didn't get to catch for almost 3 full months, due to high river stage! GENOA best bet! If you have access to a smaller boat 16' 30-40 hp don't overlook the Wisconsin River south of the Prairie du Sac Dam! Catch the water level right in the spring and the fishing can be out of sight! Don't even mess with fishing near the dam go south of the VFW!
Drop me a line some time, I have a boat set up perfect for that area and can show you some nice spots! oletom@3riversguide.com

Beside the great local fishing, you WILL be venturing to the south to visit the Illinois River during your time in Madison, to the west and northwest to the Mississippi, to the east to the Rock River and to the north and north east to... The Wisconsin, (Dells, Prarie Du sac, Castle Rock, Petenwell, Nekoosa), The Wolf, The Fox and Lakes Winnebago and Poygan. Soooo much water, soooo many walleye, soooooo little time.
There is some good information on my home area on the following. www.wolfrivercountry.com - www.walleyeonthewolf.com and www.winnebagowalleyes.com and lots of Walleye Centralites in the area to help. Winnebago Walleyes has a good local message board too.
Enjoy your transfer to Madison. What are you going to be doing there when your not fishing?

Thanks Everyone for your posts and help. I will definately check out your web sites you provided, also get in touchg with some of you. I am in Pennsylvania now and it is about a 1 - 1 1/2 hour drive to the closest walleye fishing so I am very excited about the Madison area. I will not know how to act being around so many walleye waters. Hopefully when I get out there and settled in I can hook up with a couple of you and do some fishing. I have a fully rigged 2000 Fisher FX DV 18 that hunts down Walleye better than a well trained bird dog and loves to go fishing. As for what I will be doing out there is Managing a retail store at one of the malls. Cannot really name the store right now as the other manager is still in place. Well thanks everyone , Talk soon and see you on the Water

I sent you an email today? Did you get it? I was using the chorus.net addy. You still have that one, or are you using another one?
It was a "forward" with his addy and phone numbers.
Juls
I suppose that a Steelers fan can be tollerated as long as he's also a walleye fisherman. :D There are umpti-thousands of acres of national, state, county and lumber company forrest lands that are open hunting. You'll enjoy it here.
