What's the strongest, limpest, most durable flourocarbon line out there?? I tried Berkley Vanish and hated it on both spinning and baitcast reels. Will use whatever I get for casting cranks and vertical jigging for walleye, stripers and lake trout. I'm probably going to go with 14lb. test or so (to handle the lakers). Also does anyone have experience with Seagar Carbon Pro line? What do you think of it? Thanks in advance.

Why not use a braid on your bait caster and then a carbon leader? Thats what I do. I use 10/2 powerpro, best stuff you can get in my opinion because it wont cut the guides of your rod, and is about 30% rounder than other braids/ I do use the seagur CarbonPro for my leader. Its seems to hold up to the abuse, i use 8lb. Caught plenty of 5-7lb northern pike on it without having to retie. If you use the right not its good stuff. I use the palamor knot and it seems to work. If you do decide to use it as a leader off of braided line use a small bearing swivel to connect the 2 lines together. use palamor knot on that also. If you do get it right the first time, tie the oppiste end of the line first next time.

I tried seaguar, stren, vanish, they all pretty much suck as a main line. Too stiff, to unmanagable. Go with a braid mainline and a floro leader.
If I wasn't here, I'd be fishn.

Don,you might want to try the Yozuri Co-polymer Line. It has a mono Core surrounded by a fluoro coating. I've been thinking very hard about the same thing and I'm going to try a spool of this stuff. I've not used it yet but I think it's kind of a "best of both worlds" type of solution. Flexibility of mono, abrasion resistance and invisibility of Flourocarbon. Hope it works on both spinning and baitcasting reels. Time will tell.

Ditto to all the other responses. Forget flouro altogether for the whole spool, stick with it as leader material only. Assuming that the primary benefit of flouro is its "invisibility", you're wasting the line if you spool up with it. Personally, I use Berkley Big Game (cheap) for the bulk of the spool and Seguar 15 lb test for a 10 foot leader.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm interested in spooling with it, rather than just using it for leader material, because I'll use it for ice fishing Lake Trout in some pretty cold temps with big gitzits that you need to let freefall. My experience with braids at below freezing temps is that they tend to soak up water, get icy and do not freespool in the cold as well as mono. Plus, I have an inherent dislike for any knot between me and the fish that is not absolutely necessary.

Ahhhh Ice fishing, deep lakers, the picture gets clearer. :)
Try the Yozo Hybrid line, or stick with mono. Floro really stiffens up in the cold.
If I wasn't here, I'd be fishn.

I have been using back to back uni knots to connect my Power Pro and my floro leaders now for two years. Not one knot failure yet! I also put a drop of super glue on the knot for extra insurance!

I've tried Seagar, Vanish and BPS fluoro and without a doubt Sugoi fluoro is in a league by itself. It is crazy expensive but you asked for the best and it is. I was doing the braid/leader routine before I found the Sugoi but for baitcasting the Sugoi just can't be beat. JMHO

Mike-
I see that Sugoi 14 lb. floro is $75 for 600 yds. Is it substantially limper than the others? Is it comparable to regular mono in castability, "fishability", knot strength, etc.?? Is there a cheaper place to buy it than the Yamamoto Baits website? Thanks.

I don't know of any other place to buy it. I typically spool 25 or 30 yds on top of some cheaper backing. It has great knot strength especially compared to Vanish. It is limper than any of the others but has minimal stretch. I use 12# to 16# on my Curados with no problem. It actually comes off the spool a little better than mono but doesn't birdsnest like most. Let me know how you like it if you try it.

Thanks, Mike. I think I'll bite the bullet and order some.
Has any one tried p line flourocarbon
If I was going to do what you are going to do, I would simply spool up with Berkley sensathin or sensation.
Low vis, low stretch, and nice managabality.
I have tried lots of different florocarbons over the years and have give up completely on using any of them.
Too many lost fish from knot breakage. I have been through the entire routine of various types and ways to tie knots, but still lose fish at the knot, so I use low stretch clear mono - from the spool to the hook and have yet to lose a fish.
Take care

p.s.
I do agree with your comment on braids in sub freezing temps. They do load with water and freeze. They are fine, if you are in any kind of heated shelter, but if on the open ice, in below freezing temps - they simply don't work.
