I have an old Garcia 6000C (still good), and use 25 lb braided line for pike and muskies. Need some input on best 25 or 30 lb line for baitcasting.

You may want to have a look at Power Pro. Thin diameter and pretty good castability. I use it on my walleye trolling rods and then reverse it onto my pike/musky setup. Then I get 2 seasons from it. Good Luck!

Best line I have ever used for picking up a pike- "Is that a perch in your belly, or are you just happy to see me?"

50lb Whiplash.

Why Whiplash? It behaves better on a conventional then Power Pro. less backlashes and windknots.

Why 50lb? Its 12lb dia. make it easier to handle on conventionals then lighter braids with diameters of 6 or 8lb.

If I wasn't here, I'd be fishn.

I agree with the post on Whiplash but would consider going with the 65# or even 80#. These lines are really strong on a dead pull but the lighter ones will snap when casting and you have a backlash or other lure stopping event. I started with 30# on some of my reels for bass and it's just too thin. Started with 50# on some muskie rods and it had the snapping off problem above with heavier lures. I have settled on #80 and really like the stuff. Have 100# on one heavy muskie rod and even that seems thin. The line is smooth as silk and has absolutely no memory. Does require the Palomar knot but that's an easy one to master.

Bobnalong, It probably sounds like a broken record, but Power Pro is the way to go. I have never read a negative post on this stuff yet. You would be doing yourself a great disservice by not trying a spool of it. Once you do, you will no go back. I should start working for comapany with as much plugging as a I do for their line, but rare are the products that I feel so strongly about, that I take the time to repeatedly do so. That's what this board is all about though. Someone reccomended it to me a few years back and the rest is history. The one thing to keep in mind is that this stuff isn't made by one of the big three companies, yet with their continued exposure, they are really making a name for themselves and continue to become more widely available and popular. Take a look for your self at www.powerpro.com Hope this helps! Pat
