i and my partner fished the minnesota walleye trail this past season ,our goal like everyones was to make the championship field to be held on Woman lake in September.we had a full field of 75 touring boats all year.A deposit of 250.00 dollars was required and applied for the last qualifer,no money was refunded 5 teams dropped out with chance of making championship.we had afull fielf of 75 teams.
Tom and JIm MIller owners of Mwt saw this as a way to increase their profit by 1250.00 and let 5 local teams fish the ottertail lake and last points qualifier.with littel or no consideration to the teams that have been fishing all year to get to the championship.by the way I got the big goose egg in this tournment which was my fault.those 5 teams all caught fish which gave myself and 25 other teams 5 extra points which also bumped me out of the top 30 teams.would like some opinions on what happened, wright or wrong .

I believe you are wrong. The way I undestood those local teams were not going to affect the points as no points were given. Those teams didn't even affect the payout cause they didn't do well. The only local team that did good were the Johnson Bros. and they were a touring team anyway. Give Tom and Jim a call. They can probably explain it better if you can't understand the way I explained it. I cornered them at the rules meeting and voiced the same concerns as you and that is how it was explained to me.

hangman,if that was true 45 boats caught fish ,which all the replacment tams caught a fishthey were in those 45,those of us that didnt catch fish got 45 plus the 10 point penalty for a total of 55 points,if i understand you correct.those 5 teams not getting points means only 40 points plus penality10 for a total 0f 50points.
I think you said it didnt matter because none of them did any good each team that caught a fish added a point to those of us that didnt ,again please correct me if Im wrong.

Here's my two cents, It's stated in the rules that they will take teams on wating lists to fish individual events to insure full fields if someone drops. I don't think they ( Jim and Tom ) were looking to make an extra profit that rule that the first 250.00 is applied to the last qualifier. It is to insure that the highest percentage of teams stay in the circuit the whole year. If they didn't do that you'd have numerous teams after the first or second tourny bailing out when they did pourly and realized they probably weren't going to make the championship. Then you'd have even more locals jumping in. There were earlier tournaments where all "circuit" teams didn't fish and they had replacements. I think this is the fairest of the tournament circuits I've been involved in. You get very few teams jumping in for one event, majority of the same teams, new waters every year. Hey and if you don't think there's locals at everyone of these lakes just look at the hometowns of the team members. I'm not sure exactly who were the replacement teams, but if you finish ahead or behind them you should get those points. We all fished against them. If going in someone would have told you the new local teams were only going to catch one fish each I would think you'd be happy because you'd probably assume you'd do better than them. Sorry this is so long, but after fishing Team Walleye, World Walleye, MTT, it was nice to be involved with a circuit with a true championship format and NO SLOT LAKES. Hope to see ya next year.

Sounds like your streching to blame someone for your team not making the Championship when all you had to do was catch 1 fish and you would have been in.

YES IT ALWATS BOILS DOWN TO IF WE ONLY HAD ONE MORE FISH!!

Hey Tony-Better luck next year. I too have fished Team Walleye, WWA and MTT. I really think the MWT has avery good thing going with the way it is structured and with the changing of lakes every year. It really evens out the field by making everyone learn new water in a short time. We are looking forward to the championship. Should be quite interesting as neither one of us has even seen the lake before. Again better luck next year. See you on the trail. Dave
