I don't know which is best but, the OVS VS400 works well for me!

Personally, I like the Aqua-Vu. I have one of the Z-60 units and love it. I like that you can turn the I.R. lights off ( they're useless in the water anyway ) To make the battery last longer. They don't take up much space in the shack, about the same as a flasher. The only thing I wish they had was a way to remotely turn the camera like on the OVS-500. If you've fished in an area with any current, you know what I mean. Still, for about $300 I'd go with the Aqua-Vu.

It should be noted that one of the features of the 500 is that you can put up an icon that will indicate the direction that your camera is pointing. Grandpa Joe: How long will your battery last with all the bells and whistles turned off?

I have the OVS300 the firts model of the OVS cameras. My brother in law just bought the OVS500 and my 300 has a better picture than the 500. A few other attachements to the 500 but I still think the 300 is better. Now onto the AquaView - My friend has that camera and he is getting rid of it for an OVS....This answer your question on which one is better....Prices are about the same...

After using numerous different under water cameras, I have chosen VISTA-CAM. The picture is crystal clear... and the screen is the biggest one on the market so far. Multiple anglers can look at the screen at one time. Vista Cam gets my vote!

My vote goes to Vista-cam also. Nice big screen.

How well does the direction indicator work? I have seen this camera in catalogs, but not yet in person. It looks to be a large step ahead of the rest. How is the display? Good lens? Thanx!

What are the prices of these units?

Lund: The direction indicator works great! While ice-fishing, once you have done the 360 and located your bait, you can turn off the icon to preserve your battery. As far as commenting on how the display and the lens compare, I can’t. I bought this 500 Sun. and used it Monday on Devils Lake, it was awesome. This was the one and only time that I have been exposed to cameras. I was in a dark shack and it delivered an excellent image. Somewhat light, however tweaking the darkness / contrast settings for daylight use may be required. BTW, the unit has a built-in telescopic sun shield that will help considerably in this area. I hope this helps…..

To DDR: My Vista Cam did not come with a battery. Instead, it hooks up to any 12 volt. Works great in the boat, and I always have a small 12 with me when I am ice fishing. I ice fished from 11am to 6pm the other day, had the Vista Cam on the entire time, and it never died... it didn't even come close. So far, it has been a great unit!

Thanks for the feedback! which 12 v do you use for ice fishing? i have had a difficult time finding one that will accept the alligator clips.

DDR, mine did come with a rhino battery. Never did time how long it lasts but it seems to last at least 4-5hrs. I also bought a battery from Gaunder mount. for $20 with 7ahrs. I use the rhino for the radar and for a spare.

I don't know which is best but I use my Aqua View to 60ft.and have no problem with clarity.I would recommend one with temperature readout and with a camcorder jack.We use ours mainly to study suspended fish and check bottom structure.A couple of interesting things we saw, were a boat and a big catfish covered in silt just laying on the bottom.

Does anyone know if it is possible to mount the Vista-Cam to a small black and white TV? Would be interested in hearing if anyone has tried this. Thanks,

Todd

Hey DDR,
I just use a standard marien 12 volt. I hook the alagator clips to the whing nuts that scew on to the bolts.

DDR

never even thought about that...thanks for the tip!!

DDR,

If the standard marine batt is too much bulk/weight then consider a motorcycle batt. Smaller, lighter, rechargable and less cumbersome. I don't have an underwater camera but have used them in other outdoor activities with good results!

Ranger, what about using those sealed 12v batteries,..you can buy them pretty cheaply from Home Depot etc. They are used in those emergency lights that you find in public building halls,..

I'm not familiar with them but if they are 12 v I suspect they would work as well, too. I do know that a motorcycle battery is pretty rugged and can take a lot of abuse and not fall apart. They also work well in COLD conditions! My guess is that either can be used but I would lean to the motorcycle batt due to my previous experiences with them.
