I occasionally fish a great walleye lake that it consumed by weeds. Early in the spring, before the weeds bloom, I do really well. UNfortunately as spring moves on and the weeds grow, I have a hard time getting my bait in the weeds to get 'em. Does anyone have pointers? Are there such things as weedless jigheads? Weedless spinner combos? Thanks!!

We use crawler harnesses with Power Worms. We let out 20' of line, clip on a board and troll it over the weed tops. Works for us.

try running your spinner rigs with out weight, this will let the run high over the weeds. also try fan casting a deep diving crank like a wally diver or shad rap, crank it down to desiered depth, bring it in slowly, when you hit a weed, rip it right through and then slow it down again. the strike will usally come just after you " rip it" through the weeds. this works good for us all season long.

I fish a very weedy lake also and I use a slip bobber, anchor off the edge of the weeds with the wind at my back and let the wind blow the bait up to the weeds, (I believe walleye hang just on the very edge of weeds with wave action comming head on) Durring hot calm times I take a leech below a slip bobber and put enough weight on it to get it down through the weeds as I think walleyes will get right into the thick part of the weeds durring these times. Of course this works on the lakes I fish and may not work on every lake. Good luck

Usually a single small split shot. If the weed tops are several feet down then we put on a little larger rubber core sinker. We place the sinker about 3' in front of the harness.

I fish a jig with stinger, a Berkley Power bait on the jig hook and a half a crawler hooked on both the jig and stinger. This keeps the hook points covered up pretty well and gives less weed hookups. I also drift into the weeds and flip jigs into the holes and pockets in the weeds. You will pick alot of weeds and a good share of walleye also.

Phelps Tackle recently came out with a weedless soft bodied floater. I works great. You can run a light slip sinker with it, or just a split shot and cast into the weeds. You can see it on their website at phelpstackle.com. I believe it is called the Spongy Bug Floater.
