Hey guys.
I have a buddy who emailed me this question, figured some here might be able to help him out.

I need to find a tool to remove and replace my sights on my Ruger 10/22 but I can't find any one anywhere.

Any one got any ideas? I told him to try Cabelas. Dont really mess with guns too much, they dont fire too good when you troll them.

I believe many gunsmiths would use a brass punch and hammer with the barrel in a padded vise to accomplish this

I don't have a number but your best bet is Brownells in Iowa. They carry a huge assortment of gunsmithing tools and should be able to help.

I believe Jeromy is right, the tool of choice is a brass punch.

Yep - punch and mallot is what you need.

To remove properly, you lube the sight to be taken out with penetrating oil, then use a brasspunch without burs on the edges, and TAP it lightly with a plastic hammer, it is supposed to come out the right side(looking down the barrel from the stock-like you would be shooting it). the barrel is locked in a vise, with cloth wrapped around the barrel(or lead on the vise jaws) the vise is just " snugged" on the barrel. when putting the new sight in, repeat the process of lubing with thin, or penetrating oil, and make sure that you start the sight in with fingers, (STRAIGHT). good luck, and good fishin. DONT GET IN A HURRY when doing this.
