I need some help picking out a decent all around rod for casting and trolling, medium or medium light, i have some good rods but the tips flex to much bottom bouncing. i would like something a little stiffer i think.i like to cast with it and troll if possible. Price is a little problem would like to stay under 1oo bucks thanks all

For under a hundred bucks, I would pick the St. Croix Premier. My wife uses them and she has one jigging rod, that I actualy like better than my "good" rods.

Good luck

The Berkley Series One 6'6'' in medium action should fill all of your needs. It is priced right at $100.00. You might also look at the Bionix Rods at Wal-Mart. Similar rods at half the price, then you can buy two.

I'd agree with Reel. The St. Croix Premier is a great all around rod. For what you want it for I would recommend a 6 1/2' Medium action. Should have enough of the $100 left to buy a decent bait casting reel.

Actually I'm really inconsistant on that K,....anyway I hope he behaves so I don't get blamed ,..I found in my small city that I have a double, several times I've been told that from differnt people..a very good friend said that "what was the deal?,..he didn't care" then went on to say the he and his wife both who I have know for years,..sat not far from my evil twin who was sitting with (his discription) a stricking beautiful blonde) and I acted like I didn't know them,...I find the fact my twin is with this lady,..is hard to believe,...he didn't get her by his looks,..me must have a LOT of money or magnetic personality , or a LOT of "something" Now,.. I can only hope SHE mistakes me for my twin,...and worry that a jelous husband doesn't!

Whatever you decide upon,, med. light is probably going to be too whippy in the tip for your purposes. If you get a heavier bouncer going in deeper water the ML. will be overloaded already. I've got a 6'6" M. Ugly Stik that is perfect for my liking. Check one of these out. With the Cork handle and fast tip it is great to use for bouncing. Check out numerous models and enjoy your search. With a $100 limit you can look long and hard to find the pefect rod for YOU.

great site, i will have alot more questions in the spring, do to i am a fairly new eye fisherman. i have cabin fever right now seeing there has not been any ice this year, and i am in upstate new york.all the good info from this site i copy and paste in my word program. so i can look back in the future. i have tons of notes, one day maybe i can give some advice.good fishin all

You would be better off buying a cheap tough rod(like an ugly stick) for trolling and bottom bouncers, and spending a little more money on a 6 or 6.5 ft med action rod for jigging. The best jigging actions that I've used are st. croix and G.loomis- and usually the more expensive are even nicer. The jigging rod will also work well for casting small crankbaits and pulling rigs. The green fish eagle cabelas rods also have a good jigging action and wont cost as much. I have four of them and the 5'9" and 6' med are both good jigging rods. The 6.5' med is good for heavy jigs and med cranks.

Rick, if you're thinking about the Ugly Stiks with the black foam handles you're right. Those are too wimpy. I'm referring to the newer improved Ugly Stik Lite series. They have an extra wrap of graphite on the rod that stiffens them just enough to make them a better bouncing rod. The Lites have the cork handles and stainless steel guides. Great for superlines to increase your feel to the bouncer. If you haven't looked at these you should check'em out. For $40.00 bucks, I think they're a steal. If you did look at these already, my apologies. Just trying to help. As I said before too, You're the one that has to be happy with the rods action. Make sure it fits your purpose and style.

Action up, length up, 7ft one peice spinning IM7 Graphite in medium heavy action. "Loose" graphite gives you a better cast (cranks and stickbaits) just heavy enough you can troll bottom bouncers and superlines.

If you're looking for a great rod at a bargain price check out Bass Pro shops spring catalog. I belieeve the Extreme rods are 2 for the price of one. I've fished with these rods and they are without a doubt the most bang for your buck in the rod world.....Under $100 bucks too....
