Hey guys and gals looking for some help,
My partner and I are looking at fishing the MTT circuit in MN. We both feel we are fairly experienced fisherman. Neither of us has searched for sponsorship, but the cost of everything is making us think about sponsors. Question is what is the best way to start searching? I am a professional in the Financial Services industry and my partner owns a small business so we see the value potential sponsors would receive just in advertising on our equiptment. Now how do we sell that fact? Example: I travel on I-94 25 miles everyday to and from work. I have an 05 vehicle that someone could have their internet address or phone number custom lettered on my truck. I would consider this advertising that would hit thousands of folks daily? Anyway this post is getting long and thanks for the help.

Eric,
The best thing you can do, besides posting here, is to join the NPAA.
There, you will have access to proanglers who have done it all. The members only forum is a great place to learn and get answers.

Thanks both for the responses! I am still trying to get my firm I work for to sponsor us but they say fishing is not a team sport? You see they will sponsor softball, volleyball, etc... but I guess team tournament fishing doesn't fall into that catagory. I will have to think about the NPAA.

I too, suggest your membership in the NPAA can be an asset to your fishing ventures in many regards, surely including working toward sponsorships.
Networking within the NPAA membership will supply you with valuable insight on how the game works. (there is a good discussion right now in the "members only" forum relating to $$ end of the game these days.) www.npaa.net

I would advise you to think "real hard" about joining the NPAA. At our last meeting Keith Kavajecz, Scott Fairbairn, Bill Ortiz, and Steve Butchart all gave great presentations regarding sponsorship, and I even gave a short talk. I have many fisherman ask me how I landed my sponsorships, and the ones I take the time to explain to are NPAA members, as it shows a certain level of professionalism on their behalf. That professionalism ultimately reflects on your sponsor, and tournament fisherman in general. Good luck to you and your partner this year, have fun and WIN ONE!

Aaron,
Are you going to be running around with the snow plow again this summer?!?!
Look outside the fishing realm for sponsorship, they tend to have a little extra cash to spare!

Good to know, If I'm not part of the npaa you wont "take the time" to answer a few questions I might have. Sounds like a real classy organization to me.

No, not at all...I would be very happy to answer specific questions anytime. However, it would be very difficult time wise to go into great DETAIL to everyone, thus a person who realizes the importance of having top sponsored guys like Keith and Scott share information might consider joining an organization such as the NPAA. Sorry if you took it that way, and as I said before GOOD LUCK fishing this year to you and your partner. As a businessman I sponsor certain civic events as I want to help my community. Keep in mind that sponsoring a fisherman will ultimately come down to one thing for the sponsor. What will it do for me, and more importantly PROFIT. Again sorry for any misunderstanding. Aaron

Fishhunter, I know Aaron, if you have the opportunity to meet up with him he will be glad to share his experiences with you. I think he just didn't express himself that well above, and just wanted to voice his positive opinion of the NPAA.
You should see Aaron's snow plow this year, it'll have snow flying by the side of the truck all sumer long! Good luck on the Trail this year Aaron, but you should have placed that side bet at the, umm, lower amount...

Hey Burr..yea, it was a bit of a bold wager, but then Im bold :) Hope you guys had fun in the cities today. How you youngsters can make such a gonzo trip I dont know. I went to my first NPAA meeting 2 years ago, and it was well worth the trip.

I tried to join NPAA about a year a go or so. Tried to get it done a couple of times and never got a response. I even sent my credit card numbers on the application, etc.
I know NPAA was going through some changes then, but I had been in contact with someone in charge of membership.
Just find out where NPAA is actually directed from now so you are on the same page with them. I was really worried about what happened.
Good Luck.
Rick.
do you have to fish tourney or circuits to join the npaa? or can just anyone join?

I would highly recommend looking at the NPAA. It's a fantastic orginization and they are incredibly helpfull and approachable. I've only been a member for about a year and the advice I've received has been great. It's the best networking tool I've found, but it's like everything else....you only get what you put in.

No--you do not have to fish competitively to join NPAA. Study the NPAA website pages, reading the mission statement and going from there. A Fishing Guide, for one example, who doesn't fish tourneys, can fit right in.

Feel free to go into the "member directory" and contact any of the members, directly, to answer any questions you might have in this regard. All the member contact info is in the "member directory" link on the website.
