View Full Version : Pinpoint Question
I am thinking of going with the 3700 trolling motor to go along with the two 7520's I already have but I am concerned now that Mercury bought Motorguide/Pinpoint. The Pinpoint web page is gone and when you call the Pinpoint 800 number it directs you to Mercury. There is no information about Pinpoit on the Motorguide web site. I now wonder if I should stay with my Minnkota Autopilot which I like. Do you think the Pinpoint products will continue to be a well supported viable product or will product development/support suffer now that Mercury owns it? My second question is how good is the creek and shore track features. Do they really work? Please let me know your opinions. $1700 is a healthy investment. Thanks in advance..

Now that they are out from under the MotoGuide management, which was simply milking them dry, there is a new spirit at PinPoint. Go for it -- you'll love the 3700 -- I wouldn't trade mine for a dozen MinnKota's.
The shore-track feature works great, as does the depth-track mode. Have never used the creek-track mode so can't comment on that. Also, with your two 7520's you'll get a lot of use of the multi-transducer 3700. The added info you get from the two "angle-looking" views is amazing, especially when working a steep break line.

Thanks for the input. I know from this board there are a lot of Pinpoint fans. Hopefully the product and service won't go down hill. I am leaning heavily on making the switch.

Speaking of Pinpoint what happened to their website??
Mercury bought Motorguide/Pinpoint. They told me Pinpoint info would be on the Motorguide Web site in about two weeks. Their 800 number is no good either.

The 3700 is a great motor but right now if you have to have any service work done, expect to wait a long time. Mine went out in September and as of today I have not gotten it back yet. They have had it longer than I have since I have owned it. Then with the transer of companies they have no record of and warranties. You have to prove it is still under warranty to get it covered.
From what I have been told the repair shops cannot even get parts right now. If you do have problem make syre they send you a loaner unit right away

WOW! That's Great customer service. NOT! I don't think I could be as understanding as you seem to be. If they had my trolling motor all this time and then said they had no records and they just changed owners I'd be at my wits end. I think I'd asked them to just send you a brand new one. This would probably be the easiest solution to your problem. Sounds like a good time to wait for the Pin Point stuff to get straightened out before anyone else ends up with the same problems going in to a new fishing season. Hope you get yours back in time for spring openers.
