We will be making a decision on Weds morning. At this time it looks unlikely that it we be held on the third. If not it will be rescheduled for the 17th.
I have a couple final calls to make on Weds morning then we will make an announcement on our website and on walleye central. We will also be calling all the teams that are preregistered. We have about 40 teams signed up so far.

Bernie-
I have not sent in my registration since I was waiting to see if it would be rescheduled or not.
If it is, can someone register up to 7 days before the reschedule date without being charged the late fee, or does that apply only to the original date?
if that makes any sense.
thanks

What would warrant canceling the tourney? If the temps continue and it rains like the weather man says the ice will be gone!! I believe there are a couple of other tourneys on the 17th and this will confilit with peoples schedule. I think Wed is to soon to cancel Thurs night would be best. Just my 2 cents worth

You can still preregister seven days in advance and avoid the late fee. We have a lot of teams watching this that haven't yet signed up.
There is a lot of ice in St. Claire yet that may be coming down. Poeple who know the river are telling me that this warmer weather and possible rain is likely to make things worse for the weekend not better, because it may move a lot more St. Claire ice into the river.
As far as the other tournaments go, there is not a lot we can do, in addition to the WWA and the FLW, there is also a Downriver club tourney and a Western MI club tourney that weekend. We would still be going out of Elizabeth, where the FLW is going out of. We would simply pull our trailer in when they pull theirs out on Saturday, that's what we did last year and it worked out fine.
I'm in a no-win situation. I just have to do what we feel is best for the GNWC anglers and live with the results.

I will be in the FLW event and am considering the GNWC. All moving the GNWC event does is save me on a bunch of travel and hotel cash.

Why would you want to run a tournament at the same landing on the same day as the WWA?
The WWA is at Erie Metro Park. Lets face if this tournament goes off it is going to be miserable. Have you seen the ice coming down the river today, it is heavier than ever. Dont for get it is not only the ice on St. Clair it is also the ice in Port Huron that has to come down. Highly unlikely even if we have a warm day and rain. Not willing to fish with only one day of prefish if were lucky. Plus the river will be a muddy mess after the ice is gone and it rains. Not to mention the wind action. Also the river temp is to low for good fishing. Lets have fun not try to scrape out a few fish just because we are desperate to fish. The 17th makes way more sense, you know we will be safe and the fishing will be far better. I know for a fact that many of the FLW anglers are considering hoping on to the GNWC if it happens because they are going to be there anyway. What you lose in the WWA, I think you will gain more from the FLW. Let's be safe and properly prepared guys, Remember the Titanic.

Take a look at the satilite images. All of the ice in the mouth of the detroit river is gone. Besides the ice coming for Huron will never reach us it will melt before that.

I say go for it! Just got back from the river and there was a few boats out there. They were having no problem getting around. People said that what ice is coming down is real soft. Everyone appeared to be going WOT, or close to.
Come on now. Are you guys walleye fisherman, or bass fisherman? :o
Besides.... THEY'RE CATCHING FISH!!!!

ELIZABETH PARK UPDATE AS OF 3-30-05
The river has been ice free for two days. The docks are in at Elizabeth Park but the gates are still locked. They should be open April 1, 2005.

Bernie,
Scheduling for the 17th would be quite the slap in the face for the WWA. How would you like it if the MWC would move their date to coincide with a date you had prescheduled? Seems to me a little courtesy is in order here.
Why not the 30th? There are no scheduling conflicts there AND the bite will be better?
Just my 2 cents.

Not sure whether to laugh at this post or not.
We originally sceduled this tournament for the 24th, but when the MWC announced their schedule they also had one at the Detroit River for the 24th, so we moved ours to the third.
The 30th is booked, the 17th is the only day we have. PERIOD. I feel bad for the WWA, the Downriver club and the Western MI club who all have tournaments that day, but it is unavoidable. No one is being slapped in the face. The anglers have the final say about which tournaments they will fish, not me. No one is forcing anyone to fish any tournament, you simply have a lot of choices to choose from.
If you think this is bad, you should go to Minnesota where we have to participate in drawings to see who gets the tournament permits for the locations on any given weekend. Minnesota issued tournament permits for over 600 tournaments last year! Other states are nearly as bad. Folks from Michigan are just starting to experience what anglers from other states have been dealing with for years.

anyone with a minimal amount of professional courtesy would have just moved their tournament to another venue instead of scheduling on top of another already on that date, but that's just how I was brought up.

And where in Michigan this time of year with a trophy fishery would you move it to?
