I thought everyone was saying that the FLW changes from the RCL were good for tournament fishing??

ONLY 104 BOATS???????

Looks like all the Ranger dealers need to work a little harder and sell more Rangers so there might be enough Ranger owners to fill a FLW Walleye tour event.

I'm sure there are more than enough Rangers out there to fill every event. Plus this was open to EVERY boat brand! There are a ton a Tournament options out there these days, so guys can pick and choose which ones are best for them. The bite at Bull Shoals is pretty bad right now, this was one of those events that could have been hit or miss. Some had other things going last week so they were unable to make it. I just bet a few guys are real glad they could'nt go in hindsite. I'm sure the Erie event will do well as will the Devils lake one. I'm not sure about Green bay, but I think it will fill also.
This is a VERY expensive hobby for a lot of guys, so one must think hard on where there priorities lay. $3000 for a weeks fishing is a lot so picking the events wisely is going to the norm in the years to come!

It is an expensive proposition to fish these tournies and it takes time away from work.
Bull Shoals is a location which increases the expense and the travel time for almost every pro. It is just too far and takes too much time and money as compared to tournaments closer to the homes of most walleye pros.
I know those were the facts for many who'd liked to have fished it.

Enough,

Your words are exactly correct. This is an expensive hobby and the other so called boat brand owners even have it worse on this circuit now.

The bite has absolutely nothing to do with the low turnout. Its the low return for all other boat brands. If you are correct and it costs $3,000 per tournament, then in what place would you have to finish just to cover expenses fishing in a Crestliner? Here's your answer 11-15th.

Port Clinton will be a good indictator of turnout since they fished it last year the exact same time and had 174 boats. No excuses like the bite is bad this time of year or to many guys had other obligations.

So you are correct, there are plenty of tournament options and it appears a lot of folks are taking the options!

Thats to bad because the RCL was just really hitting its stride last season with the large number of entries.

You forgot to mention all the Lund & Crestliner guys who got burned by the FLW/RCL/Genmar after they helped fill their wallet.

No doubt this is a sport only for those slick enough to convince others who have the ability to pay the way, or for those who have already succeeded in life.

A Rich Man's game, if you will.

Of course, those not in the Rich Man's loop can max out a ton of credit cards and bet on a big win. Maybe 1 in 10,000 can hit the tournament jackpot, paying off the cards, and guarantee food and a place to sleep for the next tournament year.

And that is not bad odds...

Flatfish, when we watch what a big company does, usually all we see is what they want us to see. When Genmar sold off the tin boat brands to Brunswick, those fishing the RCL were told that there was a contract with the L and C that would keep them in the RCL for 2 or 3 more seasons. Last year something happened. Either genmar gave brunswick the boot or brunswick told genmar to pound sand. Either way, the share of monies paid by L and C are gone. The L and C guys had a few choices. Sell their boat and buy a Ranger for maximun pay out, Stay home, fish other circuits, fish any way for lower pay outs, or make a deal with C or L to give them bonus money for place of finish. That is old news.
