First question,
Will the FLW pay down 50 places with the weak turnout of only 104 boats?
Second,
If they do, what is the tie breaker for guys tied with zero and tied for a money spot??
What if only 40 boats catch a fish? That means that 64 boats tied for 41-50th place. Will they just do it alphabetically by last name or have a random drawing???

I'm not sure how many places they will pay down, but I was told by one of the guys fishing it that they will pay only the guys who caught a fish. No random drawings etc.
Did anyone hear about the pros who were disqualified before the tournament began? JC

On day one they talked about 108 boats and the press release today talks about 94.

FLW Outdoors - 4/7/2005
BULL SHOALS, Ark. (April 7, 2005) - Pro Nick Johnson of Elmwood, Wis. caught a two-day total of five walleyes weighing 15 pounds, 10 ounces on Bull Shoals Lake to lead the first event of the $2.6 million 2005 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour. The entire field will continue opening-round competition Friday. After Friday, only the top-10 anglers in both divisions continue fishing Saturday, with the pros battling for a top award of as much as $80,000 and co-anglers battling for as much as $16,000.
----------------------------------------
If the above press release is correct, then they have lowered the purse to reflect the smaller field size. I believe top prize with qualifying motor/boat etc. would have been $90,000.
Dennis...Apparently there were some violations to the FLW prefish policy and a few pros were DQ'd. It's not 100% solid, but I think it's probably accurate as I know one of the guys was there prefishing, and his name is not on the results list.
Whats a prefishing vialation?

Even though most were at zero at the start of the day because of the tough bite, the set back to zero only is for the top ten on the final fourth day. As far as the tie breaker, it looks like it will not be an issue, there will be 50 pros who caught at least one fish. It would appear, although still tough, the bite is improving daily. The final day should be real interesting...great tournment.

If you were fishing all four and your goal was the championship, whats your chances if you got a zero for the entire tournament? Is the 50 guys that caught fish pretty much a lock for the championship now?

A lock might be too strong, but after looking at the point system they would have a distinct advantage. Also, now it looks like they might not make the 50 mark for people catching fish, looks like 48.

From Qualifier rules:
Day 4 - Final round (Top 10 pros and co-anglers)
Top 10 professionals and top 10 co-anglers continue competition. Winners are determined by the heaviest accumulated weight from all four days
This is a new format chg were the winner catching the most weight over the touney WINS.
Weigh-in is complete per another web-site and I counted 21 fish caught by 20 anglers.

Thanks for the Clarification. Missed the change, not sure if I like it, thought the re-set was good thing.

That's 80+ zeroes for each of three days.... OUCH! And, only 48/105 even caught a fish... That is just mind boggling (for most, I'm easy to boggle...LOL)

Here is the rule from FLW's web site. I don't think it is likely that someone went fishing after the meeting.
Pretournament practice
There will be no official practice period or off-limits period prior to the pretournament meeting. No contestant may be on tournament waters for the purpose of locating fish or locating potential fishing waters after the pretournament meeting except during tournament hours. The purchasing of information or the hiring of services will not be permitted after the entry/balance date for each tournament (September 11, 2005 for the FLW Walleye Tour Championship).

All speculation on my part BUT one of two things could have happened.
Someone was caught hiring a guide after the legal date OR they were caught fishing after the meeting. Many guys are staying at resorts on the water, I'm sure they are allowed to come and go by boat BUT did anyone wet a line?
MY final answer...... someone got busted hiring a guide.
I'm sure we will all know soon.

I see that since they did'nt have a full field they only payed down 30 spots. The money was also down. Looks like they still paid the bonus money to all that caught a fish unless you don't qualify.
This was a tough way to start the year, I bet most guys can't wait to go to Erie! I still would love to hear why guys got DQ'd before the start of the tournament??????
I was there

(D Q's?)were for hiring the services of a guide. FLW rule #3. That was announced at rules meeting. No names were mentioned. The anglers were sent home. That is all we were told.
