I was reading the pst on GPS mapping and have more questions. You stated that if you purchase a FHS CD, you can unlock it once. I,m not sure I understand this. I have a Lorance 1600. If I purchase several maps, can I keep switching these into the 1600 or once you put them in and then take them out, they are history? What maps of Green Bay and the Winnebago chain are available? Cost? Thanks for more info.

Don't confuse the Garmin program with the Lowrance, two very different animals. Your Lowrance MapCreate software takes data supplied to them from Navionics. What that means is, Lowrance has a certain way to manipulate the information, into the format they've created. There's no industry standard yet so manufacturers do whatever it takes to have the data compatible with their units. The HotMaps for the Lowrance are purchased per body of water for the most part. You are reading and writing information, so your data isn't lost when the cartridges are removed. For specifics, you'd need to contact Lowrance to see how they handle this.
FHS licenses the data to these third parties and has no connection whatsoever with the final product, except for the very recognizable name. You pose good questions. And, as I stated in an earlier post, this is new stuff and there will be growing pains. Navionics and Lowrance have both been pretty decent about getting back to people, so drop them a note. If there's no help there, I'll check into it for you.
