Just received 2002 MWC newsletter. I like the 4 tournament thing and the higher entry fee/higher payouts, along with a lot of other things that they have going on. I have only fished a few MWC events and this year will be my first fishing them all. Just wanted to know how you folks that have been fishing the MWC for years feel about the upcoming season and some of the changes.

Thanks,

there are alot of talented fisherman to compete against
as in any forum the majority of the guys (and gals) are good people and will help out if asked (dont be bashful)
there are alot of new changes this year and the jurys out on some of them but stick with it cuz i believe it will be good in the long run
i wish you the best of luck and hope you enjoy
if you ever have questions...feel free to ask

Nosnoots:
I have had the opportunity in the past of not only fishing the MWC circuit, but also be the tournament director for the Lake Pepin tournament in Lake City. Since the North American Fishing Club took over, they have included a lot of the " MWC participants" in helping make the decisions that will affect the circuit. Lake City is excited to be a part of the MWC circuit for the year 2002. They realize the importance of what makes the MWC tick. That being you and I, the participants. I can tell you that this year will be an exciting time for the MWC. With Kaz being back, television coverage, higher pay-outs etc., this year should be a great time. I hope you and your partner decide to fish all the locations. You will meet a lot of great people, make new friends and also learn many new techniques, and hopefully, bring home some paychecks in the process.

I am wondering if anyone knows if the MWC has received a permit to fish Mille Lacs yet. I heard that to date they did not have one. Is their any truth to this.

We have the permit and the cooperation and support of the local DNR fisheries manager. You can phone the MWC toll free at 1-877-893-7947 if you have any questions regarding the MWC (it's better than rumors).

Type in www.masterswalleyecircuit.com in the url window and the new site will come up. From there, click "registration" and you will find what you need. You need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader loaded. If you currently do not, I believe it gives you the opportunity to do so.

Greywolf:
When NAFC made the announcement that they will be taking over the MWC, they called a day long meeting with all the tournament directors to their headquarters. I had a few weeks to call fellow MWC'ers (I wish I could have called all) to get their input on items that they would like to discuss, or see changed from the past few years, or new ideas that came to mind. All the directors had input to benefit not only their 2002 tournament sites, but from angler participants around their sites. The tournament sites were set in stone though. This was NAFC's decision and we all came to an agreement on the sites. At this time, Big Stone was going to be a location. I respect the decision that NAFC made with Mille Lacs as they feel this would be the best scenario for this year. I am sure you will see more rotation and/or new locations in the upcoming years also. NAFC wants to have angler involvement in the circuit as they understand that we are what makes the circuit tick. I hope this clarifies. See you in Spring Valley.

jim.....
thanks for the info.
i feel the mwc has been taking hits so far and this is more info than ive seen to date.
i agree that the tourn fisherman need to be included or at least have input on policy and direction.
lord knows i dont want the fisherman making the decisions,(we seldom agree on anything!) but having a forum to be heard would be helpful for both sides.
maybe this info was posted earlier and i missed it but if not, more info pertaining to how and why they are doing things would be a plus!
thanks again...........

Hey Ralph do you know how many early birds signed up so far?

Howdy Steve,

I thought I had hear they were nearing or at 20. I havent spoken to Kaz in about a week.

20 sounded a little discouraging to me, but then with the MWC in new hands and some more restructuring this really shouldn't surprise anyone.

I think (hope)that there will be much more individual tournament interest, and hopefully more locals, this will bring new life into the MWC.

She is not down and kicking yet, and I hope for the best for them

Have fun...........R

Thanks Kaz,

It's growing very rapidly...just received word of 50 teams and counting. Get in early-before Thursday-for the same boat number throughout the year!

Looking forward to the season,

JB

It's always nice to have a larger purse, but in order to payout thhis larger figure, you have to have a full field. From wat I am hearing there will be less locals entering with the higher entry fee. The Pro's may like what the MWC is doing, but the average fisherman doesn't. I bet this could be the first year that the Spring Valley tournament doesn't fill. Usually they have a long waiting list.

lg,

Can't say I agree. Might be wrong but...I'm actually worried that Spring Valley will fill on 2/1. I think they could have 350 entry forms on the FAX machine when they come in Friday morning!

Ill have to agree with bad finger I think they'll come close to filling. Last year everyone that entered aon the first made it in.if you think youve got a good enough shot at it to spend 300.00 to enter, why not spend the extra 300.00 for a shot at 25000.00?

All I know is what I am hearing from the locals. I live in Spring Valley, and alot of the usual teams that usually enter it are not this year. I hope we fill it. I would love to see the large payout. I have fished this tourney a few times, but lately I just work the tourney as a volunteer. I wish you both good luck.
