Heard a little rumor that the PWT might be sold to ESPN sometime in the future. That could just elevate the game to the next level. More money-Bigger Sponsors. Could be an exciting new game in the next few years. Mercury is also said to be in the mix. We'll see what develops.
That same rumor was floating around last year...nothing ever came of it.

From what I've heard from some major players in the industry is that something like this is very possible, maybe even as soon as next year. Many pros are looking for some changes to be made.
That would be the best thing that ever happened to this sport if it's true.

If it does happen... I would hope that somehow more than a few boat manufacturers would offer incentives and that brand of boat doesn't become a priority for entry.
Now, on to the next issue, would it be good for the sport? It "could" be very good... Or, it could create a "static" circumstance at the top. How it is managed will have a lot to do with the final effect. Beware of what you wish for... Look at the relationship between the Pros and BASS (owned by ESPN). Right now that realtionship appears to have a lot of room for improvement (and not much movement visible). The Pros formed an association and BASS has announced it does not (will not) need to deal with that association. (Can you say "hardball"...has an ominous sound)
Camera boats... GPS info... livewell reports... Then slick filming and production could raise the sport in the public eye... Exposure like that could bring in the dollars from non fishing sponsors that we need to grow the sport. We might end up seeing our freiends on trading cards...
