I am thinking of purchasing the E-chart for my globalmap 1600. The demo on the Navionics website looked good but would only let me zoom in to a half mile range. I could not access the Hot Spots map on there web site.
I have a number of questions:
1)Has anybody tried this set-up? what do you think?
2)Does the E-Chart provide the detail that you expected?
3)what is the max zoom in range?
4)How does the E-chart compair to the Hot Spots software?

Thanks in advance.

I have used the e-charts and the Navionics Hotspots maps. Both are very good. You can zoom in as far as your unit will zoom. The maps I have used are mainly for Green Bay and they are accurate.
For the money I think it is a good deal.

luvtotroll,
How many maps do you need for Green Bay? Which are better? Hot Maps or Navionics? A ny help will be appreciated.

I have the Navionics E-Chart for N. Lake Michigan including Green Bay (and Lake Winnebago if I remember right). The map will use up both memory partitions in your GM 1600 (what I have also). The contour detail is in meters - 2m, 5m, 10m, - or roughly 6 ft, 15 ft and 30 ft. This will help you navigate, but not reveal subtle changes in depth between the contours.

The Hot Maps don't cover as large a territory, but they have many more contour lines and other information. You can load two separate contour maps into your 2 memory partitions. I have the Sturgeon Bay and LBDN maps and they are very nice. If you are ranging outside the mapped area, then you're out of luck.

Is there a hotmap for Green Bay that covers the reefs north of Monument?

Not that I'm aware of. The Sturgeon Bay Hot Map ends around the north end of Monument. However, the Navionics E-Chart does cover the whole of Green Bay and will get you on the major structures like Larson's, Monument, Horseshoe or Whale Back. Perhap Mike M. can fill us in on the development (or lack thereof) of a Hot Map covering Northern Door County including Washington and Rock Islands.

Working on it...maybe not this season yet, but it's in the plans.
