Not sure of the payouts, but it sounds like FLW anglers are going to have a tough time next year at the Devils Lake tourney. Word is the community wouldn't sponsor them because they picked a time when there's a big car show and all the motels/hotels are booked. The community wanted them to come closer to the end of June. So, they have no sponsorship from the locals. Sounds like anyone wanting to prefish will probably be sleeping in their boats. It's too bad. Mark had done a really nice job on improving their image in the area. It'll be interesting if the State will give them a tourney permit when the community's against it.

It would be nice if they switched Green Bay and Devils Lake around...

Devils Run will cause a conflict, as hotel rooms will be at a premium the weekend of June 1-4...bring a classic boat & a classic tow-rig & it shouldn't be a problem!

I suspect there will be more than a few options available to get the fishers through that weekend, maybe I'll have to rent out my basement...

I did some checking and it is true about the community wanting them to come another weekend. It's too bad they're not coming a bit later. I don't think you'll have much trouble finding a room the actual week of the tourney, but the prefish week will be tough if not impossible. Devils Run (the car show) has been going for years. Most all the people who attend have more than likely already reserved their rooms. There's usually around 600-900 cars entered and each year it gets bigger than the year before. Better call now or you'll more than likely be too late. Good Luck guys....

How is that any different than it was this year? The car show was in town when we were too. I don't see what the problem is.

actually Devils Run ended on the 5th last year, with the tourney starting in the 15th...

Yes, that's good advice. We've got a place to stay out there already though. Thanks.

Personally, I've never fished these big tourneys and I think they're kind of neat. But, I know a lot of the regular local people at some of these areas really hate them and are always trying to get the DNR's to put more limits on them. I know in ND the G&F has been walking the line for a while now. If it's true that the community isn't very happy about what the FLW did here by coming when they want to come against the wishes of the community and without any community sponsorship, do you think they'll be any future ramnifications on these big tournaments? It was bad enough to have the regular mom and pops who fish getting irritated at these big tourneys, but to now have the communities as a whole unhappy I think is a very poor move by the FLW. I hope their actions don't change things, but it sure makes you wonder.

Dont make sence

IMHO I can't believe that any community would be upset when the economic impact of the FLW event will bring a couple of million into the area plus the national exposure from the TV show. Besides, the tournament is after the car show.

For ONE week out of the year if the local folks can't put up with more people on the lake there is something wrong. The area business people LOVE it when money comes to town. Somewhere along the way someone put untrue thoughts in peoples heads, tournament fishermen are not there to rape the lake or kill all "Your" fish. Anyone that lives on the bodies of waters any tour goes to must be very selfish if they think that for week tour guys are there to ruin the waters. People like this have 1 goal, they think it's there water and only theres! This is a big lake with tons of fish and just because a tour comes to town does'nt mean anything will change! If these people that think they are being inconvinenced they should just go to another area lake, I mean why would they want anything good for the area to happen. The next time someone tells you they don't want the tours there ask them why, 9 times out of 10 it's only for selfish reasons! No one has ever given a GOOD answer whenever this is asked here so I would expect the same in this case!

there had been some new laws put into effect, stemming from the last PWT that was here...it was warm & lotsa dead fish washed up at the weigh site, so ND G&F banned catch & release tourneys in July & Aug..I haven't heard much negative here this year, I doubt many even know...there was a bit of flack last year, when the FLW moved in when the PWT was about to be a go(you snooze you loose I guess). I'm guessing the motels are the ones upset, as they lose as two full weekends will only be one full weekend, but there will be others(resorts, lodges, campgrounds) who will be able to provide to the boaters

On the other hand DL is turning into a tourney a week type lake...You have the FLW, Lowrance, Casino tourneys, Chamber Tourney, and local tourneys...so it is getting to be a busy lake!

I think your missing the point here. Devils Lake is not expressing an anti tournament sentiment. I believe what Devils Lake as a community is concerned with is available lodging to support 2 events in a simlar time period. DL loves having the FLW and PWT come to town - it fills the motels and tourism calendar. DL also loves having the Devils Run - it fills the motels. If they are both happening at the same time - Devils Lake is trying to say it's not a good plan if tourists have to drive 100 miles to Grand Forks just to get a room for the night.

Just my thoughts. Consider making your reservations now, it looks like it is going to be a race to book the rooms. Devils Lake as a community is justified in not wanting everyone to complain about their weekend because there is not lodging available. Devils Lake loves fishermen and wants you to come back again and again. There's lots of quality fish to go around.

to "please".... The thing is it's not just one week out of the year. for 2006 there's the local fishing club's tournaments, the Chambers, the Casino's, a possible PWT, possible FLW, MWC, and the Lowrance finals. Burr... put it the best. The community just wants to be able to house and provide the hospitality all of the fisherman deserve. The community is just asking these big tourney's to work with them and come at times that the community can handle the volume of people properly. For an organization to be so bullheaded that they won't work with a community to me seems very unwise. The area loves Mark and Co.. They've been great for our community. I just think the local community would like his boss to work with them for the best of all those involved. On the other hand, it is a business to them. DL is a big draw ticket. When you add up the income from entrants and subtract the payouts, you can see why these tourneys want to be here. Plus.... the fishing's been awesome!!!

Why is it....

Why don't any responses pertain to the subject? Anybody have an answer to the original question?

Just how can anyone respond when the details are not out in print? The dates are set, I see but not one thing is in print on anything else.
