Clark Collects $35,000 Door Prize at GNWC Championship Banquet
By Steve Weisman GNWC Publicity Director
"And the winning number is 8813...," announced Grand National Walleye Cup Executive Director Bernie Barringer, and the drama increased as he then paused with two numbers left to read. On the line was the first place door prize of a $35,000 WX 1880 fully rigged Skeeter Boat given away at Wednesday evening's awards banquet for the GNWC's National Championship. With two numbers left, there were 10 people still standing and in the running to take the $35,000 rig home with them. "...19," said Barringer. "That's 881319," and Rodger Clark from Albert Lea, MN lifted a clenched fish in celebration! "I'm just shaking! I can't believe it," said Clark as he shook hands with Steve Soukup, regional sales director for Skeeter Boats. As the excitement died down and Clark signed the papers, he looked up across the room and said again, "I'm just shaking. We want you to know," he said to Soukup, "how much the teams on the GNWC appreciate what Skeeter Boats has done for us!" What a prize, and what a way to kick off the 2005 GNWC National Championships presented by Skeeter Boats and Yamaha Outboards: a WX 1880, fully rigged with a Yamaha 4-stroke 150 hp outboard, Minnkota electric trolling motor and batteries, and Lowrance Electronics. Barringer added, "The look on Rodger's face as he came up to take possession says it all. Skeeter Boats has made a commitment to the anglers who fish the GNWC. They are designing some of the best walleye fishing boats on the market today. What's even more exciting is that the team who wins the 2005 National Championships will walk away with two more fully rigged WX 1880s!" Weighin-in for the first day of the National Championship begins on Thursday, October 6 (today) at 3 p. m. at Red Clay on the River.
